Default Advice needed- stopping door dings in garage

Hello All,

I am about to move to a new place with a secured garage I share with a neighbor. The place looked to be big enough for two cars easy- then the kicker came- I went there last night and my neighbor has HUGE SUV! This will probably mean he will open his door into my s2k at sometime, dinging my car!

So, I was trying to figure out ways to protect my car from dings. Some ideas I had were draping blankets over the car, maybe draping foam padding too- the only problem with the foam is that apparently it will be rigid (like a plank) and difficult to keep stay put. The issue with blankets is I think they won't stop the force of an opening door

Does anyone have any ideas on how to help with this? Thanks a ton!!

Tim:

I went to Rite Aide Drugs and purchased a "Wacky Noodle," one of those foam watersport toys. It looks lke a big piece (five feet)of red spagitti. Actually it has ridges. Pick your color. I tied line around each end and hang one end from the rear view mirror and the other from the antanea. To overcome sag, I placed a dowel in the center of the noodle. It gives about two and a half inces of protection.
Works great.

car covers help too...
you could use dgl1 idea and cover the car too (cover over the noodles)-
or what i do:
i have one of those orange round things used to mark traffic lanes (about 2'+ tall or so) placed next to my car at home- my wife and kids open their doors into this plastic thing and it cushions the blow if they open the door towards my car. you might need two of them for a 4 door car...
i posted a really long time ago when i got it- that thread is probably gone by now. i know that i found the thing on the internet after lots and lots of time searching... they usually dont sell them one at a time, but the guy i got a hold of liked the reason that i needed it!
i have no dings, dents or scratches in the sides of my car.

Wow! Those ideas are brilliant! I have go to try them! Wanabe- if you could find the link for those traffic things, that would be awesome! Thanks for the ideas and if anyone has any more, please let me know! This board rocks- I would never thought of using a whacky noodle!

If it's primarily the driver's side door you're concerned about do what my wife and I do. She parks on the left side of the garage and I back my car in on the right side. That way both driver's side doors open to the outside of the garage instead of against the other car. Doesn't help much if that SUV always or frequently has a passenger, but you might give it a try. Besides, I kind of like driving straight out of my garage in the mornings instead of having to back out.

Put the fear of God in him so he won't think about dinging your car. That's what I'm relying on with my roommate who drives a wussy SUV. And yes, it's a wussy SUV (Lexus RX300).
