Are you sure about that?
Any experience with a flood salvage car?

If car runs well change the fluids go through the car strip and let it dry out and don't worry about it.

If everyone threw away water cars alot of good cars would go to waste..

If you want some great proof I can show u pics of a 996 turbo I got from the auction that was a total loss and put a new ecu and now my buddy has a 996 TT for less than 20k..

I'd keep it no doubt

I had the same thing happen to an Element after Katrina.

They totaled it due to brackish water on the drive train voiding the warranty.

I bought it back for $2,500. It was at the Honda dealer at the time. I had them do a complete run through and fluid change with a thumbs up.

Took it home pulled out the carpets, pressure washed the bottom and cleaned out the interior, let it all dry out and reassembled everything.

I've put 70k miles on it since.

When I got the title from the state there was no mention of flood damage. It took almost 3 years for the incident to show up on Carfax.

I could easily have sold it and made good money. I had promised it to my son when he had a driver's license and that is what I did. It's his and I replaced Ellie Mae with Jessica:

Good luck.

Yes, I would advise having a professional give the car a thorough inspection and change all the lubricants.

What would you guys do? Take a check for the whole thing and let them take it, or a check minus the salvage value ($2500) and get it inspected and/or repaired.
My PO (personal opinion):

Neither option listed above describes what I would do. I would call autoclub, have the thing put on a flatbed, and hauled off to a trusted shop to have it fully inspected for damage as much as possible. After a complete inspection by a shop of my choosing whose reputation is good and who I already know does great work either because of firsthand experience or because of other's excellent reviews/recommendations, then I would decide what to do regarding insurance.

I would want to know the full extent of the damage *before* making the decision, not after.
This.

Again, the problem is damage that doesn't show until months or tens of thousands of miles later.

If you plan on keeping the car for at least several years, don't worry about the salvage title, as by the time you sell it, the difference between what it's worth as a salvage or not won't be much. But, if you disclose why it's a salvage title, you won't get sh-t for it.

Drive it to Colorado and let nature wash it clean again.

Ellie Mae for a Honda Element, I get it. Old fashioned, not flashy, a little lumpy but loyal and reliable.

But Jessica for a red S2000? I was thinking more along the lines of Stephanie or Scarlett.

We had this problem in Louisiana after Katrina, to the smart buyer every pre-'06 is a Katrina car until you make absolutely sure that it isn't.
