Advice on whether to buy an S2k
Hello everyone. I have lurked on this forum for years but now that I am about to buy an S2k, I should start posting. I graduated from school last May and started working in September, so financially I can make the purchase. Albeit a used one. But I wanted some advice from you owners first.
(1) This will be my daily driver. I have read the threads where people say it's not the best car for that purpose, but I will live in Silicon Valley (I am not rich though...), so the weather is perfect for a convertible.
(2) It will be stored in a car port. I also read about people getting the antenna, seats, and center H cap of the wheel stolen. I will definitely have an alarm on it, and the neighborhood is pretty safe.
(3) My commute to work is about 20 miles each way, most on the freeway.
So with these facts in mind, could those of you who own one please tell me whether you think it's a good or bad idea and why?

i've worked in silicon valley in the past, but not with the s2k.
trafffficcccc after work.
but 20 minutes isn't too bad at all. The only grip i have is driving on the freeway for mroe than 30 minutes. i can barely hear my radio with all the wind noise.
if you don't mind sitting in traffic with a stickshift car, the s2k is a great choice for around that area. also gas around that area is also expensive... keep that in mind.
there's also weekly s2ki meets near there too. go for it.

Two for buy.
I commute 25-35 miles each way in Los Angeles traffic every day. Doesn't bother me one bit. I love driving stick no matter what, I can't stand automatic cars. Traffic doesn't bother me, shifting and using my left foot just gives me something else to do instead of just sitting there about to fall asleep.
I say go for it if you feel like you can handle it and the car is suitable for what you want and like. I felt like the car started feeling a little cramped but now I'm used to it and don't pay much attention to it. Sometimes I wish I had a 4 seater coupe just for extra room, but nothing feels as good as it does when I drive the s2k.

I think it's a great daily driver.
Responding to your 3 points:
1-I've never had an issue with the weather, just don't put the top down when it snows/rains.
2-My car is parked in a private lot outdoors. Never had an issue, but my area is very safe.
3-My commute is 40 minutes of stop-go (12 miles) each way. As for driving stick in traffic...I dunno...I've never owned an automatic so it doesn't seem out of the ordinary or any extra hassle. I may change my mind if I ever own an automatic for any length of time...but from my experience it's no more difficult than any other manual I've driven (and I have the ACT clutch kit with ACT prolite flywheel...never stalled once...very easy to drive).

Once you get used to it, driving stick in stop-n-go traffic isn't bad at all; it's definitely worth it to drive this car. Looks like you've been an enthusiast on this board for quite a while so I think I know where your heart lies. My only concern is the carport. If your neighborhood is really secure then cool, but hopefully it's not a false sense of security like a gated community; my Integra was stolen from a gated community so I don't trust them one bit and got a garage for my s2k. Best of luck to ya!
I say go for it. I daily drive mine 23 miles each way to work. It is not all highway, but the road has few lights and it is almost highway speed. As far as gas milage I average around 27 mpg which is not bad. The noise in the car never bothered me (then again I drove a toyota pick up with straigh pipe exhaust with only the cat for 13 years). I look forward to driving the car every weekday morning and afternoon. Besides, there is nothing better then lowering the top on a beautiful Friday afternoon and driving home.
