julia, i'll take a shot at your question. I think the salesman is telling you to get a CAI (Cold Air Intake). There are many different types available with a wide range of prices. AEM, INJEN, Mugen, ARC (stay away), Spoon Snorkel. He's trying to tell you that you can get more horsepower with it. The fact is you can but it varies depending on the design.

I just installed my 4igs (AEM/Comptech clone) yesterday. I think I have heard that CAI's can add anywhere between 5-10 horsepower. Also, the throatier "growl" during hard acceleration makes it feel faster.

Feel free to do a search for plenty o' info on the topic.

If you want to utilize your Stock Air Box use an Air Duct(snorkel)..

~but the AEM will produce more HP gain for ya and you will be reducing some weight at the same time.

An AEM/4IG-style CAI will also clean up your engine bay, which leads to further cheap and great upgrades, like Fumoto oil valves for above-car oil changes.

Hey guys i'm new to this too and I'm curious, but does it matter what brand of CAI you use? For ex. I see the AEM V2 intake pipe, it's designed a bit differently then reg. intake, but all the other designs are the same, and since my knowledge is limited on this subject, perhaps someone can shine the light. Thanks.

I spoke with a freind from the board Poindexter from Mid-A.. he told me that Comptech has the most bang for the buck when it comes to Air Intakes for the S.. i personally am going to be using a mix of the Spoon CF Air Duct and J's Racing CF Air Box Cover. But thats because i personally dont like how open the engine bay looks when a standard CAI is in.
