When I do get a Hardtop, it will never come off. I also plan on taking out the soft top assembly as well.

"then why own a S ?"

Answer:

A HT S2K is still lovely, responsive, reliable, and high revving, just like the convertible. As far as I know, adding a HT doen't adversly effect the best shifting transmission around, either.

Because it's a sweet car, with sweet performance. I didn't buy it because it's a convertible. I always had the intention of putting a hardtop on.

I didn't get the S for the topdown factor either. I definitely enjoy the topdown very much, but once I started searching for parts and found the mugen ht, I knew I would get one eventually. ht really completes the look ... just my .02

yeah i dont think many people bought the car because it was a convertible. I know i didnt. I've always loved the car and really never liked the convertible aspect of it. I must admit, I do love cruising with the top down, but most of the summer its super hot and I cant stand sitting in No. VA congestion with the top down as i burn easily

and the HT just looks so sexy.

we have the best of both worlds. when the weather is nice out, we can take the hardtop off. if it decides its going to rain later that day, we have the soft top for backup. and whenever its cold or if we want to mute noises from the outside we have our hardtop. take my word for it, once you get a hardtop, top down will be a very rare occasion. you'll love the way your car looks and feels with the hardtop on and never want to take it off.
but for some reason when i had a HT,,,, i get that urge to put the top down more than when i just had a soft top.....kinda weird...

bump a way old thread...

i'm wrestling with this decision too... i bought a hardtop last week, and absolutely love the car with the hardtop on. i'd like the gut the soft top but figure it doesn't cost me anything to keep, other than 50 or so pounds. i figure it gives me the flexibility to pull it on the not-so-frequent perfect day in austin. if i ever sell the car, it would bode better to have the soft top in, and no way in hell am i going to want to reinstall the softop assembly.

but, the second that damn soft top decides to destroy itself, it's coming out.

any other thoughts? this thread provided a pretty darn good read.
