Very interesting thread. I never liked convertables, and definitely never thought I'd own one. I got the S because I wanted a sports car, and it was the purest one I could afford to buy and own, so my story starts like a lot of yours.

I guess my first top down drive on a warm spring night showed me that top down is the best way to enjoy this car. I love dumping the roof on a nice morning and actually enjoying the trip to work, stealing jealous glances from all the drones lock in their coffins with their lattes.

I do love the look of the OEM hardtop and plan to get one for the winter, but I'd take it off as soon as the weather turned and put it on as late as possible.
Thats is exactly how I roll in my S!

I love my HT also. I usually take it off for spring and fall and use it for the hellatiously hot summer and winter when it gets cool here.

I love the looks of my hardtop but I love to have the top down. We just moved but mine was winched to the ceiling at the old place. As soon as the weather breaks i'm putting an electric winch in at the new place. it used to take me about 3 minutes to put my top on with the winch.

Do you have any pics of your set up?

Wow, this has grown into a great thread with a lot of good personal opinions.

Keep them coming, because I'm still losing sleep over this!

IMO if my car did not come with a hardtop I do not think I would have purchased one! To me it is not worth the mount of money that is needed to be spent. But my car was used and it did come with the hardtop so now I am stuck wondering if I should sell it or keep it?!?!?

I don't have any closeups but you can see it here. I just had to back in to put it on/off. The winch is just under the crutches hanging on the right side of the wall.

I had a hardtop on my last convertible and found that I would either drive with the top on way into the summer or not put it back on well into the winter. I considered getting one for the S but I was afraid I would be back into the same old thing, nice summer day and still have the top on so I passed on it.

I went around and around with the HT thing ... almost bought a really nice used one for $2K a while back. Mainly because I like the look.

But I love the top down! And it's sooooo easy to drop the top. Many's the time I'll start off with the top up, then drop it at a stop light or after pulling off the freeway for a moment.

I finally concluded the HT would end up sitting on my living room floor or hanging from the garage rafters most of the time.

Now mind you, my S2K is not a daily driver and the SF Bay Area weather is top down friendly 12 months/year, so your results may vary.

When I do get a Hardtop, it will never come off. I also plan on taking out the soft top assembly as well.
