I've been pulled over twice:
1) Cop explained that my lights were a "hazard". I turned off the lights and let him sit in the car and turn them back on. He just said...."Woh...cool...the view is so clear". After explaining they were stock he said ya..."I guess they would be on a 60K car" (ROFLOL).
2) Same road different UHP officer. Not so easy...called desk officer and explained the situation. Took in some literature on Xenon HID Lighting. Cancelled ticket and brought car in for other officers to see, at night......

This will be an ongoing issue as the DOT jury is still out on illumination guidelines. The lights cause what is called "Blue Dazzle" to oncoming drivers....we've all experienced it. It is somewhat a new phenomenon. It has to do with the ability of the rods and cones in your eyes to recover after exposure. It is currently under active evaluation.

I have found it beneficial to call the office of the prosecutor in the county where you are going to appear. If you can get in touch with the assistant district attorney that will be handling traffic on the date you are to appear, you might convince him ahead of time to dismiss the ticket. It would save you the trouble of going to court. It might help to be prepared to discuss the statute but don't come across as a know-it-all, just a citizen who has a request of a public official. If you have a friend who is a lawyer and is willing to make the call for you that would also be good. ADA's often extend a little professional courtesy, particularly on something that is stupid like this.

wow... I've worried about the lights being too bright, and almost every time I go out at night I have people flashing their brights at me (until I flash back )

I've just assumed they were legal since they were on an approved factory vehicle. I don't think they fall into the category of illegal unapproved modifications that the police are really trying to stop. If they have a problem with them, then they need to file it with Honda and force a recall if they really think they're illegal. I'm sure they'll be really successful

Chances are, the cop just wanted to see the car up close and wanted to pull over a sports car assuming you'd just pay the ticket by mail. I'd fight it though. And if the judgement was against me, I'd go to the Honda dealer and customer relations for help.

Lexus an Mercedes manufacture cars with illegal lights? Unbelievable! What a moron! Don't worry, the cops here in Montreal, they are almost stupid as the one you dealt with. I mean, it's not a new thing, they should be aware about the Xe lights a long time ago. Fight the ticket give him a lesson. DO IT FOR ALL THE S2K OWNERS.

...yes, please keep us informed as to the results of this bizarre ticket. I'd love to see justice done. Bottom line is, the lights are perfectly legal and that cop is an idiot. I'll be tuning in to see the results...

You may want to check out the Florida Statutes at http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/ The officer had to cite you in violation of one or more statutes. It is my understanding that lights on vehicles must meet Federal D.O.T. standards. Therefore, the Honda lights should have a federal D.O.T. number on the parts package.
It was great meeting you at the Orlando meet- hope to meet again at another gathering.
