i agree with the poster above, fork out another 2k to 3k and your in a whole new ballpark as far as mileage and condition.
This is true.I recently sold my S2K for 12k.The car was mint with very low miles, completly stock & no accidents.I sold it for a low price because I hate to haggle and I'm busy at work and dont have much free time.

I got tons 10k offers which I took as an insult. The car was easily worth 14k.It eventually went to a doctor who gave me an extra 300 just for holding it a couple days.I'm just happy the car will remain stock

12k will get you a nice low mileage,adult owned,stock car..Just be patient..good luck

As for California I am not finding too many S2000s in the 12 - 13k range with low miles (lowest I've seen has 66,000 miles for a 2001). Most in that price range look to be a 2000/2001/2002 model with high 60k to mid 80k miles. Another thing is there seems to be A LOT of good ones that are out of state, which technically I can go up and purchase on the weekends but arranging transportation to get there is tricky even if I go up to San Francisco/Fresno/Sacramento. Another problem is I do not currently have a car right now, so looking for the "perfect one" is not really an option for me.

11,400 got me a 2002 with 29k miles from the original owner... needed a dent taken out of the driver door, thats it. Black on full red, a rare color combo too. Car was mint cept for the dent which cost $75 to fix. Wait for the right one, trust me!

Yeah that sounds like a pretty crappy deal. Has rear fenders rolled which definitely should lower the price. No vins on the front body panel means they were replaced most likely from and accident. You will be the 6th owner. That's a lot of owners who could have abused or messed it up.
I would definitely look elsewhere.
For slightly more you can buy one with n o damage or issues less miles and single owner. Keep looking.

Wow I am happy that I decided to wait it out because I just found a GREAT deal on a 2000 S2K with only 28,000 miles! It is also local so I won't have to drive/find transportation to meet someone hundreds of miles away. It does sound fishy for a car that old having such low mileage, so of course I am going to get it fully inspected before I make a decision. Well I am also worried about what needs to be changed for a car that is 10 years old now. Do you think something like the air conditioner compressor would die out at this age? I will ask the owner if he has changed anything (like fluids, clutch, tires, brakes, etc.) and request all of his service records, but I wanted to see what you guys thought I should check for.

Also would I be better off buying a car that has higher mileage, but they can prove that they replaced all of the wear and tear items + fluids, or go with the car I am looking at which probably hasn't had anything replaced since it was barely driven? I of course have think about how much it would cost to do all of the maintenance on top of the sales price I am going to pay.

Personally I'd rather have the low mileage car. It would cost that much to have all the fluids replaced and then you'd be set for a long time.

28k on a 2000 isn't fishy on cars like these. You can still find 20k Miatas from the early 90s without much trouble. Some people have these as 3rd cars and just don't drive them much.
