I wouldnt pass just because it has had 4 owners. I would take it to a dealer and have them check it out and if everything including the carfax passes then I would consider purchasing it. I mean a one owner car can be ran to hell and back. It just depends on the condition of the car.

You are right. A car having only one owner doesn't necessarily mean it was ripped apart with and neither does 4 owners, but having 4 just makes the chances much higher don't you agree? I mean the S2K w/ 28,000 miles has had 4 owners and the car was driven an average of 3,100 miles a year? It is not impossible, but I smell something fishy. What is the reason for the high turn-over rate? A Carfax report and a mechanic can only tell you so much. I would even say that I would rather buy a car with higher mileage and less owners than one with more owners and less mileage. It is just so difficult finding S2Ks that have not been totally messed around with, bondoed, repaired, fenders rolled, etc.

Yeah that is true. Four owners with only 28K miles is kinda fishy. It might have had the cluster replaced who knows. But are you sure it was actually 4 "people" who owned the car because a couple of those might be dealerships. I know when I bought my Toyota Tundra it had 3 owners but one of those was because a dealer had the car in their name.

Yeah, the shortest length of ownership was 8 months and goes up to over 4 years for the first owner, and to my knowledge a dealership would not keep a car on their lot for that long. Another thing is the Carfax does not have much information for any of the 4 owners, which makes things even more sketchier. Some local body shop has ownership of the car because it was repossessed from the last owner, which tells me to stay away.

If a body shop has possession of it run far away! Probably got it all smashed up, fixed it up and now are selling it. I would not touch it with a 10 foot pole!!

Just my opinion, but I don't think low-mileage and four owners in 9+ years automatically means the car is fishy or has a rough history. Get it thoroughly inspected and you're good to go.

A lot of people on here seem to forget that not all s2k owners keep their s2k's for a long time. People can get bored with it, sell it to buy a different car, maybe buy a newer s2k, etc. And there are plenty of owners who don't daily drive their S, giving lower mileage.

But a body shop repo? To me that is fishy. I don't think any number of inspections would convince me to buy it unless I was looking for a track-only car.

I just want to thank you guys for helping me out through this. I mean I have been looking at so many S2Ks, and many of them I have backed out on because something was wrong with it. I have never bought a car like the S2K so all of this is new to me.

Alright guys I have another dilemma. I found a 2000 model with 70k miles or there is a 2002 model with 81k miles. Which one would you choose? Would the 2 year difference bother you?

Damnit I just found out that the 2002+ models have the rear glass window. Now that changes EVERYTHING. I was so set on going for a 2000 or 2001 model, but not anymore because I do not want to deal with the hassles of maintaining the plastic rear window.

Alot of 2000/2001s I've looked at have had the top replaced with a glass window top. It's worth asking about, or find one that needs a new top and is priced appropriately.
