Pretty simple: Car dealers will lie, lie, and lie again. If it seems wrong it is wrong: unless you are a farkin expert and are scamming them, always run.

I had a well-known dealership give me a decent price, and then proceed to try and commit fraud on the contract side. Watch every step.

Ok well the 2003 I have forgotten about and I am not going to get it.

How many miles would you say is too many to get an s2000 with? How many should they be good to?

I am asking because there is an 01 with 69k miles on it for 13,500. They claim it is in great condition inside and out with no known problems and a clean carfax.

It if nice would be a good entry level purchase to an s2000. I am still young and just got my first good salaried job so don't really want to go spend it all right away haha.

It is silver with black leather. What do you guys think about that deal if it all checks out unlike the last one. Is that too many miles to purchase one with? It will be my daily driver. I am needing a car right away kinda as my car I have now is a dsm if any of you know about them, which is super fast but very unreliable and just annoying right now to drive due to noise, fuel smell, stalling the whole works.

69K isn't bad really. A compression and leakdown test are DEFINITELY needed, though.

IMO the 2002 and later are a big step up IMO. I've owned both types.

13.5k? s2k is that cheap now? wtf.. I'll never see a price under 20k in here. That's ridiculously cheap and fishy to me. Fck the word "good condition" dealer uses, the definition is too broad. I'd try to stay away from very early year ones if I were to buy one now since it's been like 8 years and most likely these early cars have been owned by multiple people and been beaten up pretty hard. You go for the too cheap ones, you'll be compensating with extra maintenance and repair. That's my experience at least.

Well I guess this is a year later, but what the hell.
Yeah I did wind up getting that one and it was real nice. Have it now and was the best choice I could have made. Love every minute of it.

Imo, stay away that sound like a real shady dealership. i would think that naturally a good and reputable dealership would have the car certified b4 putting it out on the lot.

sorry im chiming in late on the whole dealer fanagle but heres my experience with a honda dealership regarding a honda certified s2k...

my first s2k was an 04 with 50k miles scored it for around 17k. purchased froma honda dealer and the car was honda certified. noticed the car was pretty sluggish, took it back to dealership where sat for 3and a half weeks. pulled some records from the previous owners history reports from a dealership he had the car serviced at and found it had bent valves. compression checked the engine and several cylinders were running below 130psi. got my refund and ran the hell away...

all i gotta say is if the frame is straight, request a compression check and leakdown. i did it when i purchased my second s2k. they gave me a cooling down period for free, normally they charge for it-allowing you to return the vehicle within 48hrs of purchase...

i dunno if they have that available for you, however i would demand a comp check and leakdown if things seem sketchy. IF you set your sights on the car.

all in all i would say stay away, i wish i couldve avoided my mishap-it wasted a whole lotta time on a bunk s2k.

Thanks guys, but I was just updating this since I posted this originally about a year ago. I bought the car and everything was good with it. No problems. Have it still and has been great.
