I was going to say #1 but I got to thinking about a "fun" beater. How about a WRX ? I know that's not a beater. But I used to drive a Legacy GT it had a nice 2L turbo and AWD and was great in bad weather. Also some old Saabs might be fun.

It's been hard so far. I've been driving my beater everyday since it's gotten colder in October. Now I make a rule that if there is no rain and the high is supposed to be above 40, I drive the S. I figure you paid that much for a car, might as well enjoy it as much as possible.
