Default another alternative to seat locks..

this might sound stupid as I hven't had a chance to fully think about this , but what do you think of this idea..

Since the lock and unlock function of the s2k can be done through the keyless entry, has anyone ever thought of removing the locking tab on the door handle? So only way you could unlock it is through the keyless entry or your key from the outside?

My thinking is lets say they slash through your top, or smash your window or whatever to get to your seats.. Obviously the doors would still be locked right? If they are unable to unlock and open the doors, I have no idea how they would be able to get to your seats... They'll probaby have to rip off your door covers off but that too would be hard since the door is closed..

Haven't even looked at how you could remove that (lock/unlock) tab since I just though of it right now, but what are your thoughts if you were able to remove this piece... yay, or nay, or should I just bang my head on this wall here lol

Do it. It could be fun...

Okay here's my "anti-seat theft" idea. How about I get the seat a comfortable distance away then have my friend weld the seat in place? That'd be good too I think...

Why not weld the rail to the floor. Then you could still adjust it. Of course, if the seats ever need replacing, it would be a pain. When the carpet catches fire from the welding, insurance should replace the whole car.

Remove the locking tab from your doors, park your car in a bad neighborhood for a week or so, and let us know how it works out... ;-)

In my civic I did a poor man's seat lock. I got hex bolts from the hardware store and replaced my seat bolts with that. The thought is that how often would a car thief carry hex wrenches to steal seats? For added security you could also fill the hex with solder or jbweld, although you would have to use a torch to get the bolts off again... a pain in the ass, but how many times do you really need to remove your seat? for my S2K, I bought the official seat-locks during a group buy a couple years ago.

I've got some tamper-proof torx bits....I should find the appropriate sized bolts for that. I don't really know much as far as how thieves typically steal the seats so I'm not too sure on anti-theft ideas. My bad.

Vise grips. Seat thieves have to be smart enough to bring a good pair of vise grips. The real seat locks are resistant to this approach where Allen Head bolts are not. Unless they're counter sunk...

Not to be a sticker, but normal bolts have six sides and are hex bolts. Allen bolts are the oppisite, and use a hex wrench.

I knew the smart ass comments would come. lol wouldnt that be the same for all cars, no matter what anti theft system they have? So even if I had the super duper anti crime $10000 alarm system on my car, i still wouldnt leave it in a bad neighborhood for a week.

oh yea, my original suggestion is to get a long bolt, and 2 of them would go through the bottom of the car (i believe there are 2 more, but not sure), and put a nut on that bolt from the bottom of the car.. So if someone tries to pull them out from the top, they won't be able to ....

If you don't want to spend the big money for custom seat locks, start googling:
http://www.securityfastener.com/
http://www.guardnut.com/tamper_proof.html
http://www.brycefastener.com/

Just out of curiousity what is the size of the bolt threads?

It's not really a good idea, but keep playing. Think of what could go wrong, like accidently locking yourself in the car!!! Or what would happen if the car caught fire and you had to escape in an emergency.

EDIT:
OR, what would happen if the battery/alternator died on the highway. Everything in the car is electric, including the top, you'd be stuck in the middle lane trapped in the car. You'd have to cut a hole in the top to hand a stanger your keys so that they could let you out. Even then you'd have to wait for them to finish laughing their ass off.
