another alternative to seat locks..
I like the idea, it shows some creativity. It has some problems as earlier posted but the approach is interesting. Many security systems don't totally stop a crime, just make it inconvenient and time consuming.
In all the seat lock discussion though, the hex or torx bolt idea seems like the best compromise.

Hey, it was a JOKE!!! Hence the smiley-face.
On a more serious note: if they break a window or cut the top and gain entrance to the cabin, they can disconnect one electrical connector in the cabin and lower the top manually. I'm not sure how much contortion would be necessary to remove the seats with the doors locked and the top down, but thieves usually rise to the occassion.

It's not really a good idea, but keep playing.
Think of what could go wrong, like accidently locking yourself in the car!!! Or what would happen if the car caught fire and you had to escape in an emergency.
EDIT:
OR, what would happen if the battery/alternator died on the highway. Everything in the car is electric, including the top, you'd be stuck in the middle lane trapped in the car. You'd have to cut a hole in the top to hand a stanger your keys so that they could let you out. Even then you'd have to wait for them to finish laughing their ass off.

If you don't want to spend the big money for custom seat locks, start googling:

In the end, McGard was the best choice because they did actual safety testing on their bolts to make certain they would be safe in a bad crash. They are also a world-wide multi-million dollar company, and if anything bad happens, they would be able to pay out a big lawsuit.
That helps me sleep at night.

PS: Generally, you need to purchase security bolts in bulk - that's what led to the first Group Buy for Seat Locks.
tear gas grenade wired on an electronic circuit that arms when the car is off and locked. If the seat is moved and the circuit is broken...boom. how many car thief carry gas masks? You could put a flash bang in there too just to get attention of the locals.
Yeah...this totally isn't practical (and unsafe, illegal, etc) but it makes me laugh in my head a little at the unfortunate SOB who would try to break into a car wired with grenades.

To answer the original question:
The seats are just as easy to unbolt with the doors closed. If the doors are closed, the seats are lifted over the roll bars and onto the trunk. It's easy when standing inside.

The way my alarm works right now, the moment I take my keys off the car, it automatically unlocks. but I see your point if the battery dies... So make sure you have a backup battery for your alarm!
