Another comparison thread
i just got me a 91 civic dx as a beater. pretty blah but hey, gets me from point a to point b. also helps because i recently got transferred to a shady part of town so now i don't have to worry about my S all day at work. i daily drove mine for only 6 months and wound up with dings and scratches galore, so having a beater is definitely worth it for me!
Personally (although I'm sure I will get TONS of people who do not agree), I would just keep driving your S2000. It's not an expensive car, per se and is relatively the same as any other "normal" car out there. Yes it handles well and is a convertible, but that's it.
Do you see people in a convertible Chevy Cavalier get a daily beater? Nope. That's just me though. I daily drive mine everywhere through all types of weather. I haul bikes, trailers, etc.
When the car gets in trouble, I'll buy another car.

Keep in mind that buying the beater will:
1> increase insurance
2> add more maintenance costs (2 cars to maintain)
I'd vote to fix up the S2000. But if you really need a car with space for those 'just in case' times, then my vote swings to buy a beater.

Buy a beater for $2,000 or less (You can get a nice 92-2000 civic for this price) and put the rest into fixing the S.
I never did understand why people buy beaters that are actually nice cars. The point is it's a car you don't care about and probably looks kinda crappy but you get it mechanically sound and reliable. I love my 93 civic. I don't care if someone sits on it or spills some of their drink in it...that's what it's for so that won't happen to the S!

2. If you are only putting 10,000 miles a year on the S2000 instead of 20,000 your maintenance on the S goes down by 50% and beater cars are cheap to maintain...you still save money in the long run, especially if you do your own maintenance and your S2000 lasts longer.
Beater car FTW.
