maybe he rolled miles back ?
/>/>/>/>/>/>/>

Rolled digitally stored miles backwards?

Maybe he pulled a Ferris and propped it on jackstands while running it in reverse?
Its easy to do and you would never know they did it.
In some country's if you change the dash out they change the new odometer to match the old one.

Oh really? Would love to see your process. Just to spot check myself I went ahead and searched S2ki, Google, etc and guess what? Nothing.

I also just found it humorous you used the term 'rolled back' since it's digital. Rolling a physical one is very easy to do - digital ones not so much.

Its really simple to do if you have the right OBD software. My buddy owns a shop and repairs high end German cars. Can "roll" any cars digital miles for 400 bucks. Even can set it to what ever miles you want. But you cant just do it once as it recored for inspection in PA so you have to do it every year. Ive never done it but I had it done for my sister in her 06 nissan. Was 410 miles out of warranty when her trans blew. Another buddy leases bmw's and gets the low miles lease and rolls every year. Its easier then the older physical ones. Some cars store the miles in 4 or 5 places so the guy doing it has to know what hes doing or you will get caught. On the s2k miles are only stored in the ECU so you can basicly send him your ecu and have it set to whatever you like. It only takes him a few minutes. Thats why Im looking for a DBW laguana that was serviced at a dealership over the years.

219k miles, but "only" 996 miles on the "brand new" instrument cluster?

DUDE, STFU.... First off, what you're talking about is illegal and the fact that you did it for your sisters car to get it covered by warranty is extremely shady. And second off, you have no idea what you're talking about. The S2000's milage isn't stored in the ECU. It's stored in the computer that is within the cluster itself.

I'm sure someone will be able to give us the facts about rolling back miles and where exactly its stored on the S2000 (I have no idea) but if it is stored within the cluster itself it seems like someone could switch out the cluster and call the car low mileage (except for the fact that its illegal and wrong and unethical and any smog or dmv or carfax records often include the mileage)...

I already stated. It's stored in the cluster. In the S2000, unfortunately, it is as simple as swapping a lower milage cluster into a car to make the car appear to have less miles.

You would have to be right about the miles in the cluster cuz I have EMS and it didnt change my miles. Like I said, I never did it to my any of my cars. But no body is going to try to find a cluster, its too easy to reprogram. My sister had just bought the car and planed on keeping it, so its not like it was done to increase value to screw someone. Is it still wrong? Yea I guess but Ill sleep just fine tonight. And to say I have no idea what Im talking about... Im not the one who said it wasnt possible...
If the car really has under 1k on it, you will know right away

Seeing the car in person, I'm sure that you could tell in a heartbeat if the mileage is legit. That car is nearby, tempting....
