Another rear speaker believer!!!

How can I install the 2 additional speakers? Do I connect them directly to the unused rear speaker outputs of the head unit? If so, will I be able to balance the output so that I can even hear the rear speakers? I really don't want to add another amp. TIA

It might be worth the $20-30 harness cost to do the experiment. Lucid's harness is completely plug and play and very easy to install. I made my own harness and probably spent more than it would have cost from Lucid.
If the experiment doesn't work you could probably sell the harness to someone else on the board. You wouldn't have to cut panels/install the rears to see if it would work, just plug in the harness, hook up your old speakers (if you still have them), see if you get a reasonable amount of sound from them. My rear Polk separates (4" and tweeters) run very well unamplified off the stock head unit. With no amp on the front lines I have the fader slightly towards the front (The stock head unit has plenty of power for rear fill-in speakers without installing an amp).
Like everyone else who has installed rear speakers, I highly recommend it! Good luck!
I don't have my S2000 yet so I have a couple of questions for you all, 1. what does it look like behind the rear panels, anyone have a picture with the panels off? 2. and can not a bigger speaker be used in the rear panel? 3. what is the out put of the stock amp and it's location?
pcovers & LATEOTT - Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like rear speakers should work with Lucid's adapter as long as I can balance the amplified front channles with the unamplified rears. When I installed the amp, I fabricated my own adapter, so Lucids would replace that one with the benefit of adding the rear speaker connectors. Looks like I have another project for the fall

I'm not a real big believer in sound coming from behind you but it might help especially with the top down.
Lucid's faq page is down so how much are the panels, and I run a/d/s 6.5" separates in my doors powered by a Soundstream Lil' Wonder amp. Anyone with this setup have an amp for the fronts. I'm worried about the fronts just overpowering the rears.

although i did this mod on my own, it is identical in concept to lucid's setup.
i run an aftermarket headunit with no amps. and this affords me the use of muting all of the speakers. from my understanding, (although i have not followed the progress of lucid's work) you will not have use of the mute function with the stock deck. i have eclipse pointsources in the doors and polk 402s in the rears. 4" speakers are all that will fit back there as there is a support bar directly behind the panel in question.
for those with questions, this mandatory upgrade makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE even when the top is down and even if the seat is pushed all the way back. now, if you are travelling 125mph with the top down, there will be some difficulty in your listening pleasure, but i think at this speed, this should be the last of you worries. otherwise, normal freeway driving is now a pleasure as music is more than audible, it is clear and crisp. now, admittedly, there is a noticeable difference (but it is still better than stock) if you jam both seats to the rear of the car, but you should not have to do so with the passenger side and that alone is worth it.
this is the simplest upgrade to do if you have an aftermarket deck and no amp. just run the new rears to the green and purple leads off the harness...they both are clearly marked. (of course this is the simplistic view) you should have the necessary tools to cut the holes out of the panels and some familiarity with the car. no amp is necessary as i value space over power. trust me, use quality speakers and a quality high powered deck and that is all you need. if you run an amp already, you will have to balance things out. i would lose the amp tho...

I replaced the Kenwoods in my doors with Polks and will have my rears and tweeters installed soon by a local guy who did the same to his S2k and another guy's already. One system had really high end speakers and and amp while the other just had Sony Xplods and no amp. They sounded pretty equal to me and it is a huge improvement. I can't wait.

someone keeps saying "install lucids rear speakers"
do the panels come with speakers? if so, what brand? what price?
i've changed the head unit and replaced the factory speakers with a set of Boston components - straight swap in the doors and added 2 tweeters in the base of where the windshield, A-pillar and dashboard intersect - facing upwards into the windshield - sound bounces off the glass beautifully - A-pillar is perforated where tweeters are. a punch amp is running all this.
but, i have always wished to have some rear fill and looking for solutions. i've asked a couple of shops in toronto and they've told me it would be too expensive to design and implement something for the rear - plus they would need my car for a long period of time.
