Another S2000 saved from abuse! (Long)
So I pull into a local gas station to get my car filled up and washed, when I noticed another brand new 2002 Black S2000 pull up to the station. I go inside to the cashier to pay for gas and I decided to come back out just to introduce myself to the proud new owner... As I was walking up to her I noticed two things, She's pretty cute AND SHE HAS THE 89 OCTANE PUMP IN HER TANK!!!!
Lucky she hadn't pressed the lever yet to begin pumping so even though she was chating on the phone I felt that it was my obligated duty to step in and stop her from doing any such rash thing. *Pheww* She didn't pump. So she finally gets off the phone and I ask, did you know you were about to put 89 octane into your car?! and she said yeah! This guy at work told I could use either 91 (Which is the highest we get in So cal.) or 89 octane. I quickly told her no and explained why. Then I asked her if she checks the oil everytime she fills since it's a new engine and it will have some tendencies to burn some oil... She says no, but she's getting an oil change anyways. I asked how many miles are on the car. She says: 600!! I then explained to her about the oil additive that Honda puts in the car from the factory that needs to stay in there for a good 7000 miles and if you went to the dealership they would advise not to chage the oile until then. She then says: Well I was going to take it to Jiffy lube.
I said Noooo!!! Don't do it! Let me check your oil for you, and make sure that you check it for the next couple of thousand miles until the engine properly seals. She flashes me her pretty smiles says thanks and heads on her way.
Another S2000 saved from abuse, but with 600 miles already on the odometer, who knows what she has pumped into her poor car. I did my part and I feel good about it...
Do you guys and gals have any S2000 abuse Horror stories?

No I didn't...Looking into the future if we ever ended up getting married, I can't imagine her pumping my Ferrari full of 87 Octane!
I guess you could say that I pumped her and left!

This guy I work with got a S2000 the same day I did. Funny thing is he got a 2002 after placing an order at our local Honda dealer like 3 months ago.
I surffed the net and found a 2003 an hour away and picked it up the same day, no waiting.
Well I was talking to this guy 3 days later (I had just found out he had gotten his car) and I said how many miles to go before your break-in is done?
And he goes "dude what are you talking about"
"So I go I hope your not red-lining it"
He was going 7000+K, he said he had not gotten around to reading the manual yet
I told him about checking the oil frequently.
What do you think will happen to his engine??

My dealer has been very good about telling me to leave the factory oil in for the first 7500 miles, etc. But....when I asked about a breakin period, they said there wasn't any.
After I read the manual, I advised them of the 600 mile period. Fortunately, I read the manual the first night I had the car.
I don't have any "abuse" stories. I don't see but about one other S2K a week or so -- and they're usually going the other way on the highway.

She was just the victim of a dumbass dealership...or at least a dumbass salesperson. When I bought mine I asked, "any special break in?" and his reply was "no, it was made to be driven hard". He knew nothing about the oil, nothing about the break in, nothing about the spacers, etc. etc. etc. If it weren't for this board...how did I find you guys anyway?
I guess I was lucky, my salesman owns ans S and told me about the break-in and oil. And then I read the manual that night.
I almost never see any S's around here, probably because I drive from here to Creedmoor to work, which is a small town with mostly old American cars. So I have no abuse stories.
