Default Another spare key thread

I hate to post when the question has already been answered, but I've read a dozen threads about keys, and I'm still not 100% clear.

If I read dwight's post here correctly, then my only option for a spare key for my 2006 is the stylized S2000 key, part # 35111-S2A-307, and a plain (cheaper) key is not an option. Is that correct?

I'm also wondering if S2Ki has a preferred online parts source. Honda Village is the cheapest that I could find.

Thanks!
Erik

His post seems to be missing the valet keys (grey vs black), which I would think are certainly less expensive and not decorative.

It looks like the 2006 valet is $18, but I'm not sure if can actually be cut to work.

Thanks for your response, Saki!

So according to this chart, the grey key, part # 35112-S2A-305 would also work? What about the black one, # 35111-SLJ-306? Can anyone confirm that they've used either of these parts in a 2006?

I also seem to remember something about there being different operating frequencies among the different models / years of keys. Anything to that?

Thanks again!

I think the thing you need to know is if a valet key can be cut to be a fully-functional key or not. I don't know much about 2006+ keys, so maybe an owner can chime in - afaik there are two things you need to have - the frequency emitter and the type of key pattern. I'd think that programming the key is easy enough, but whether or not it can physically open the center console and trunk would be the issue.

I believe it's the cut of the key that will determine if it can open the trunk and console box. The color has nothing to do with it. The chip should be able to be programmed to start the vehicle. Physically I don't see any reason why the gray key blank can't be cut to open everything.

I didn't get a valet key with mine. Not sure I'd want valet parking with the car anyway as I remember my first drive in a S2000 when I almost ran over a parking curb the nose is so long.

I have the fancy key and the black key. I use the black key. Interested in getting the valet key, though, just to have all the issued parts.

The grey key is used to prevent snap oversteer.

Is the honda dealership the only place that can program an '06+ key? Been meaning to have another one made but never got around to it.

From what I've read in other posts, yes. The Honda HDS computers are the only option for programming '06 and up transponders. If someone knows otherwise, please chime in. I'm sure we'd all welcome more options.

I'm also still hoping for some confirmation on grey and/or black key options for MY06.

Thanks!

Matches my hair color.
