Another spare key thread
I didn't know diff MY were different in programming.
So, a spare key for my MY03 is easier to have programmed? I noticed my local Home Depot and True Value can program car key chips. They have a little demo thing at the counter, where you stick your key inside, then it turns on, activates a light and tells you your key has a chip in it. I put mine inside, and obviously, it turned on.
I still have an oem blank Honda S2000 key (with chip inside) sitting around. I've been putting it off having it cut&programmed, since all the Hondas around here charge 1 hour of labor or $100-120 to cut&program my blank key. Can I just cut&program it at the Home Depot or True Value??

Just wanted to add a conclusion to this.
Saki GT's suggestion to have the grey valet key, part # 35112-S2A-305 cut as a master did indeed work, and was the cheapest option that I could find.
$28 for the key at the dealership (they wouldn't cut what they didn't sell), + $5 for the cut and $55 for the programming.

From Sydney Australia and own both an ap1 and ap2.
Both cars had a second key encoded and cut from a regular lock smith. Ap1 I sourced a genuine oem key, no dramas.
Ap2 I could only find a replacement generic ap2 looking key and chip. Got it cut and encoded at locksmith with no dramas. Bought used keyless fob (matched frequency by confirming part number internally) no issues!

I don't know how much this will help, but I did all this research for mine. When I bought it the ignition key didn't match the door/trunk/glovebox key. So, I went to the dealership and had them cut a cheap, non-chip key for me directly from the VIN. It matched the doors (which i was never given a door key, so this helped). The key I was given was a chip key that matched the ignition. I have a MY02 and still wanted a spare ignition key. So, Honda has a black top key with "T5" engraved right by the head. This is a "learning" key. From what I understand, all AP1 keys can have this type of key used as a spare. This is also the type of key that you would get at an Ace or Home Depot. They just "copy" the radio signal" to the new transponder, then cut the key like that have always done with the grinder. You can get a blank OEM T5 key off amazon for $8, then if you send a cute girl into home depot or lowes, they usually cut it for free. (not that I would ever have my wife do that for me)
For AP2, this is not as much an option from what I read.
