Another spare key thread
I don't know how much this will help, but I did all this research for mine. When I bought it the ignition key didn't match the door/trunk/glovebox key. So, I went to the dealership and had them cut a cheap, non-chip key for me directly from the VIN. It matched the doors (which i was never given a door key, so this helped). The key I was given was a chip key that matched the ignition. I have a MY02 and still wanted a spare ignition key. So, Honda has a black top key with "T5" engraved right by the head. This is a "learning" key. From what I understand, all AP1 keys can have this type of key used as a spare. This is also the type of key that you would get at an Ace or Home Depot. They just "copy" the radio signal" to the new transponder, then cut the key like that have always done with the grinder. You can get a blank OEM T5 key off amazon for $8, then if you send a cute girl into home depot or lowes, they usually cut it for free. (not that I would ever have my wife do that for me)For AP2, this is not as much an option from what I read.
Good info!,
Thanks for sharing it. Always helpful to have a cost effective alternative to the stealership keys
