Default Another trashed S2000

Well, looks like my S2000 has just been written off.

Trashed it against the crash barrier (actually both barriers) on the highway at about 75mph in the rain.

Managed to avoid all of the other traffic (very lucky) and neither of us were hurt (except my pride).

My God. Sorry to hear that. Glad you are all right. That is what is important - the car can be replaced.

Can I ask how worn your tires were, and were they the stock S-02's?

Yeah, on the Tomei expressway just as we got back into Tokyo. Just coming back from Shimoda, where we had spent the day on the beach yesterday.

Sorry to hear that James.
As long as people are not hurt, thats the main thing.
I am going to have to drive my Stook very carefully over the winter, we get lots of rain here as you probably know.

Thanks Andy.

I certainly know what you mean about the rain in England

I am undecided whether I should replace it with another S2000 at the moment (though the accident was only this morning) as I just feel that it can't cope with wet weather very well and this is my daily driver....

I have aquaplaned on my stock S-02s at 80 mph before as well. (Luckily without incident.) I'm no expert, but I do know by looking at the tread that they were made for maximum dry traction, not water dispersal. Others have said that the S-03s are still pretty good for traction with better wet weather characteristics.

Don't rule out a replacement S2K just yet...

Ouch, that hurts. Glad you're not hurt but you may wake up feeling kind of sore and stiff. By stiff I'm not talking morning wood.

I wouldn't suggest S-03's for a Chicago winter. You need honest to goodness snow tires. S-03's will still get very hard and slippery at around 35 degrees F, and you will have a noticeable lack of traction.

Performance winter tires are made to remain soft and pliable even in extremely cold conditions.
