I had a similar experience last week with my gas gauge. I went out for a drive, odometer hitting the 159 mile mark. Now my gas gauge (MY04) since I've purchased the car has always been on 1/2 tank at 100 miles. When I got to my son's football practice my gas gauge was showing 1/4 to 1/3 full (consistent with the 159 miles). It's about 50 degrees out, I watch football for 1 1/2 hours and get back in the car. The gas gauge is showing two notches short of full on the gauge.

I'm thinking - someone is playing a joke on me, wife came and took car and filled it up while I'm watching practice. I look up at the trees surrounding the parking lot to find the candid camera. No camera. So I go to get gas to see if it will take 2 gallons (two notches) or 8 gallons - where it was when I stopped. It took 8 gallons. Not a good omen.

Tonight I am at two notches past 1/2 tank with 198 miles on the odometer. Me thinks me needs a gas gauge. Good grief

Going to Honda tomorrow for oil change. Will take it up with service.

My antenna hasn't moved during this episode.
Mine has done that a few times... not much you can do.

oh. yeah this has happened to me before. 3 bars left and it shot up to 3/4 full. way off. i was thinking it was the shell gas knowing that they had a rep for too much sulfur that would ruin the fuel sending unit.
i was sure it was the shell because i haven't have a problem with exxon but who knows really..

A similar thing happened to me when I lived in the dorms in college. At the beginning of the year someone stole a pair of my jeans out of the laundry. On moveout day, I came back to find them washed and folded up on my bed. Of course they had been used for the past 8 months. Thanks...

This is too funny. Stole it and put it back.
Things that make us go "hummmmm".

My uncle had something similar happen like 6 years ago. They park their minivan outside and someone broke into it for the cd player. They also stole a bunch of CDs he had. A few days later they found the CD's on their front door step. I guess the theifs didn't like the oldie vietnamese music so they returned the CD's.
