Any experience with S2K in snow?
Unfortunately, I've come into unexpected financial hard times (ya,ya who hasn't lately with the markets...). I originally bought the stook for summer, was going to get XCountry, Allroad, or BMW X5 for winter. None of those are going to be a reality now. I'm looking at possibly having to drive stook in winter (Wisconsin...). Any one with snow driving experience? Tires and wheels?
One week after I got the car, winter hit. I got a second set of wheels (my "rock" wheels) and put Blizzaks on the rear and Winter Slaloms on the rear. This car is just fine in the winter. The heater works great, the block heater does its job nicely. Next winter, I'll have the hardtop to use, too. If you don't get a hard top, just be careful about brushing snow off the plastic window.
I'm from Minnesota...not too far from you. I don't recommend driving the S2K in the winter without some snow tires. I drove mine out a few times when the roads where cleared. I still have the stock S02s on. One time I drove the S2K out for a drive and it started to snow...well...I came out of the freeway and as I was exiting on the off ramp, guess what happened. The tires lost grip and I did a 180 off the ramp. Lucky, there was no rails and I just went into the snow covered grass. I was lucky not to get hurt and the car was OK. A few people stopped by to help my wife and I push the car back onto the road.
Thanks for your input. I'd love to keep this car than any of my others! What are Winter slaloms? I've had Blizzaks is the past - great snow and ice tire.
XViper - I assume you meant Bliz on back and slaloms on front?

From a former mr2 owner, I can tell you that it won't be fun. Lots of rear end sliding. Descending and with corners will be adventurous. As well as trying to climb hills in snow flurry like conditions, the s2k will be tail happy.
You will have to wash it regularly as you don't want rust to develop by the end of our LONG winter season. Try to keep it parked in a heated garage as well. Salt and moisture will kill any car as you know. I would hope there is maybe some form of public transit to avoid any catastrophies ?
you know how nasty our winters can be.. and that's why when I ship my s2000 down to the warm U.S. skies, in 2003 I'll be one happy camper to leave this pathetic RED BOOK country.

I use mine all year round here in New Hampshire without any problems. Bought some rims and mounted Blizzaks MZ-01s and the car drove fine, of course it is the other idiots you have to worry about.

Don't even think about driving on S02 in the snow. I tried just moving my care from one parking space to another and couldn't get any traction. If you MUST drive in the snow get snows. If you don't need to drive the S2K in snow don't. Rent a car.
