Any experience with S2K in snow?
This car is SOOOOOO great to drive, I don't want to give it up for the winter! I had an MGB convertible before that I put snow on just the rears. It went places that 4 wheelers were reluctant to go. Probably that snowmobile effect, just gliding across top of snow. Burned the clutch that winter though...
XRMD,
If you're going to go with snow tires, I'll recommend any of the winter-only ones from Nokian, like the Hakkapeliitta 1 or Q models. I have the 1s on my Impreza 2.5RS.
Speaking of which... those "winter" cars you were looking at were pretty expensive, why not go with like a used Impreza 2.2L?
Hell of a lot cheaper, and with snow tires on there, the AWD makes it handle like a tank.

I used to live in Wausau, WI, but now I'm stationed near Fairbanks, Alaska. Last winter I had shitty Michelin pilot sports with only a couple 32nds of tread left, and I thought I was going to die. I had to drive it a couple times in the snow once to pick it up from the shipper and then to get a new top. It was bad. This winter (yes we have full blown winter already) I have new HTRZ 3's (which are not meant for cold alaskan snowy roads) and I am way more confident in the couple times I've driven this year. I debated on getting blizzaks because thhe car would tear through the snow but no snow can be compared to the torture of 45 below zero. Clutches and brakes and power steering are non-existant not to mention it takes a few miles for your tires to get round after sitting awhile. There's no way I can drive here.
