Hey all!

I just got an S2k starter button for my car (94 Miata) and looking at it, I don't want to dissasemble the assembly cause it's niiice.

Anyhow, i'll have to dissasemble it if i can't figure the pin-outs on it.

Does anyone here in S2k land know them by chance? Are they in the manuals?

If someone knows, i'd be eternally grateful if they shared the info

Pics are up at http://www.nwlink.com/~kanajan/Mavica/122100/ if ya wanna take a look.

Thanks!

Matt

From the S2000 electrical manual:

facing the connector, left to right with locking thing on top:

Pin

1 - switch (side which routes to ground)
2 - switch (side which routes to battery)
3 - light (gets grounded)
4 - not used
5 - not used

the light is between 2 and 3
there is a diode between 1 and 3

On the S2000 the battery side is connected to a fuse which is hot only in the on position.

You may want to get the first issue of Ragtops and Roadsters magazine. There was an article about adding a start button to a car.

Matt, I'm looking at the places that I know and I can't find anything. Regretfully, I don't have a Helms manual, which I am sure that information is in there.

I see that you got the part from Honda Accessories. Trevor is a wealth of information and also very helpful...email him at info@honda-accessories.com and see if he can give you any insight.

Anyway, cool idea...! It was neat to see what the whole assmbly looked like...thanks for the pics and post them when you get it installed!

Mr. Bill: Oh Noooooooooooooo (sorry had to do that). Are you sure? Seems like something sould go to the starter or a relay for the starter. You can't have all the connectors going to either ground or battery. Or pin 4 or 5 is used.

If it doesn't get answered, I'll check in Helm's later tonight.

Here is how it's wired:

Ignition switch (hot in on), then to fuse 3.
Fuse 3 to pin 2 on the start button.
The switch is between pin 2 and 1.
Pin 1 then goes to the starter relay.
The relay then goes to a clutch lockout switch (cannot start the car without the clutch depressed).
The lockout switch goes to ground.

Also from Pin 2 it goes to one side of the light inside the start button.
the other side of the light goes to Pin 3 which then goes to ground.
Pin 3 is connected to Pin 1 through a diode inside the switch.

If you have the electrical manual it's on page 21. If you need a copy of the page, I can try and scan it tomorrow at work.

You guys rule. Thanks!

The button was 29.45 from Honda-Accessories.com. Because i'm an impatient bugger, the shipping was 6.28. Total was 35.73 and it looks to be worth every penny

I'll definately post pictures tomorrow after it goes in for all of you guys to see. Ya learn something new every day though... i didn't even know it had a light!

Mr. Bill, if you wanna scan that, that'd be great! Your instructions seem pretty clear though.

I still need to subscribe to Ragtops And Roadsters... haven't gotten around to it yet though. Same situation with Miata Magazine.

Thanks everyone!

Matt
