Anyone disappointed with their S2k?
Honestly, it's a little slow off the line. The first couple of gears are short so there's a fair bit of rowing required. The cabin is noisy and highway cruising puts you around 4000-5000rpm which can be tiring.
That being said, I love driving it. I love the shifter. I love the engine noise and having to wring it out to really go. I love the claustrophobic cabin devoid of all but the basic amenities. It's just fun to drive and that's all I'm look for. It delivers 100% on that.
Top up highway driving it definitely not the high point of the S2000 experience. Neither are tests of straight line acceleration. That said, top down driving on a twisty road is a heaven that makes up for all the other shortcomings.

I dont have an s2k yet but I somewhat agree with cronic.
I test drove a certified suzuka AP2 a couple of months ago and I was somewhat letdown too by the acceleration, coming from an H22 prelude I only felt a slight upgrade.
I was also unable too fully enjoy the drive because of the chatterbox salesman who would not stfu and let me concentrate on the drive.
But what still has me in the market for an S2000 is the superb nimble handling and A+ gearbox along with the excellent balance. These attributes make-up for the somewhat lacking acceleration.

Wrap that sucker out! Hell I wrapped mine out on the test drive with the minder from the dealer. Why would I buy a car if I can't tell what it's capable of? Don't be afraid of the rev limiter - I got a Modifry shift beeper so I don't have to keep my eyes on the dash to keep track of the tach - I just shift when I hear the final beep and I'm putting the tach at 9k every time. You'll need the revs to get the power out of the car and as a side effect the engine sounds extra nice up there too.
240 HP is 240 HP no mater how you look at it; yes the car could have more power but I think it would upset a delicate balance that Honda was trying to achieve. The thing that pushed me towards S2000 was the fact that Consumer Reports rated it one of the best used Hondas; that is not a casual thing. What sold me was the engineering marvel that is the F20C engine, the feel of the shifter, the responsiveness of the brakes, the tight and quick steering, the way it hugs the road, and the sound of the engine. Keep in mind you might not be getting 350 HP in the car but you are going to have handling about as good as an NSX. You can run quite a bit of boost on a stock block or swap out your diff gear for one 15% shorter to get some more get up and go out of it.
You are also only looking at the AP2 series which I'm told feels and handles different from an AP1 which is what I drive. I haven't experienced this myself but you might want to consider also driving an AP1 to see if it's more alive for you. I don't think you'll notice any difference in power perception (slightly different torque but same power output) but I sure do like the way 9k RPM sounds.
AP1 stopped being produced in 2003 - I got my 2002 in 2009 with 50,000 miles - it looks cherry because it was well taken care of before I got it; most people can't tell it's almost 10 years old at all. They are certainly cheaper though I wouldn't buy a model year earlier than 2002 unless you want to retrofit some things; I consider reliability to be good or I wouldn't have bought the car in the first place so it's not on my mind at all. So far it hasn't let me down except for the sticky starter.
I love my S2000 - best used Honda is not a joke!

I just sold a 500awhp evo to get back into a S2000, and if it isn't love at first sight then you might not want to get it. The second I sold my evo I went and got into another S and the smile could't be taken off my face. This car isn't about HP, if your looking for that, this isn't that car.
240 hp is nothing to shrug at considering the HP to weight ratio IMO. My bike only makes 136 rear wheel hp and it will toy with most any car on the road.Plus the S corners like a slot car. This car has two personalities. To expose its alter ego one has to hit vtec through a few gears.
