Anyone else dislike the start button?
How we've come full circle. A similar topic came up in the first year of this forum. Some get their panties dropped. Some get their panties in a knot. In another 10 years, some newb will look at a 22 year old S2000 and get their panties in a knot because "new" cars will start by just thinking it. The thought of having to actually push a button will knot their panties twice. Of course, by then, people won't wear panties anymore. They'll have to knot something else.

Neon001, See I told you were the only one! You not goin to make a lot of friends here if your first posts are about things you don't like about the car. Hey you asked the question. What you were thinking, that a group of people who love the S were going to jump on your "irksome" band wagon?
Im surprised no one has mentioned this yet haha,
A simple google search will show multiple aftermarket keyless push to start kits. Im sure it would be more difficult with the s2000, having a key and start button, but uts probably just some wire work. I wouldnt bash on him for not liking it tho, its almost like saying you dont like the shape of the steering wheel, then dont buy it

The original design S2000 is right hand drive. The start button is close to the shifter. If you spun on a track and/or stalled, you would reach with your left hand, restart the car, reach back to the shifter, and go. Fumbling for a flimsy key to turn while adrenaline is pumping and your wearing a set of fire proof gloves isn't easy. This is why all true race cars do not have keys. Honda had to include a key cyclinder because the cars would be used on the street. The key cyclinder prevents theft. It locks the column, stops unauthorized persons from activating the ignition, and enables the use of the immobizer system. The lack of a new style push start system makes the car more reliable for track use.

Most cars that don't have proximity keys today but had start buttons that you'd call true "push button start" cars also had a ton of switches to flip to turn things on. No car was ever just ready to go at the push of a button.
The logic with the S2000 push button is that if you are in the car and do anything to stall, you can shift to first with your right hand while restarting the engine with your left hand, so you can get moving again faster - typically for race conditions.

You are correct sir. This is also why the ignition on all 911's have always been on the left side. The story I saw several years ago was that the "Le Mons" start had the drivers run across the track and get into the cars. The cars could not be in gear and must not have the engine running. The key on the left side would allow the driver to put the car in gear and start the car at the same time.
This start was changed due to drivers nearly being run over at the start of races.
The logic behind the system the S2000 uses is that you turn the car on, then can easily start the engine as needed. Modern push button starts do this in two stages depending on how you push the start button, but the idea is still the same.
How many people don't like it when some one asks a question like this? Can we just get rid if them and get another?
I always think... WTF? Seriously?
Mommy I don't like my chocolate milk in the carton. Then you know what? Take your little whiny self down to the cow factory and have them put in your little nasty ass hands.
Just don't start the damn car then.
Yeah I'm irked that he's irked about a damn starter button.

... Wasn't the s2000 the car to bring start buttons back to life? Notice the wave of start buttons that came after 1999, and personally I think the keyless push start buttons have no soul and are absolutely pointless.
When my automatic volvo breaks down and the fuel cuts off I can't even try to turn the car back on until coming to a complete stop and putting it in park.
So in my mind you're complaining the car that made start buttons what they are today should have ripped off itself and improve on it.
