Anyone else go to WMHM8 at gingerman?
It was like 2 weeks ago at Gingerman raceway (I know it's kinda late to post now). There were a couple of people that said they were on S2KI. I was the guy with the black S2000 with all the blue tape.
It was an awesome event and I have to say that my car was set up VERY well this time around.
If someone is looking for an input on tires, definately look into the Dunlop Direzza Z1 star specs if you want an awesome street tire that's good in the wet and in the dry. I got them like the first week they were released in the U.S. I can't believe how good these tires worked and some people couldn't belive that I was on street tires as I was catching and passing cars (even S2000s) on race tires.
They're such a soft compound tire that I was going to bring a water sprayer. I forgot it (I'm a forgetful dude), but on the first day I def. didn't need it. There was a freaking monsoon all day. The tires gripped like crazy in the wet so I figured they'd kinda suck and get real goopy in the dry.
The next day was warm and dry. I couldn't believe how consistent the tires were! They NEVER got greasy. They just kept sticking and sticking and sticking whether they were barely warmed up or super hot.
They were advertised as "consistent over a wide range of temps"...I thought it was hype, but I guess not.
The KW V3s worked awesome on both the track and the drive home. They're SO comfortable that you wouldn't expect the car to react as fast as it does or balance it self as well as it does. After my friend drove it, he said "this is probably what it feels like to drive a crazy ass porsche or something and turn the wheel hard".
I was also impressed with my alignment specs. I used the WHOLE tire without rolling it over so the camber was perfect..and this is the first time I've played with toe specs on my S2000. I did a little bit of an oversteer alignment (AP1s call for 6mm of total toe...I used 5mm). I figured it may be a handful with the 9k springs all around...but the car was 100% STUCK to the track.
My EBC yellow pads always work great. I think I have about 4 track days on them (I swap them in for the track) and they still have 1 or 2 more days left on them. I brake REALLY late...and these have never faded on me. I've had some intense track days on them and they've always been awesome. I used Willwood racing brake fluid this time..but even when I had the pads at 90 degree track days with OEM brake fluid...the pedal never got soft.
There was a ton of water on the track and I had an AEM V2. The car would choke for a split second once or twice...but I never got close to hydrolocking it. Proof again that it would take a freaking lake to actually hdyrolock the car. Check out all the standing water on the track in the videos:
I made my own camera mount for this. I was glad it worked so well. I also thought up the solution of taping the mic on the camera so that the wind wouldn't be too bad. I'm sure I'm not the first person to think about that....but never the less. The video quality was pretty good for a $99.99 camcorder lol.
LMK what you think.

All in all, the event was great. There was a guy driving the real deal Spoon DC2. I'm proud to say that I did catch up to him..but he pitted before I could pass him.

Like I said earlier, the tires got F-ing hot.

The brakes got hot enough to melt my hub centering rings and leave my wheels looking char broiled (till I cleaned them, ofcourse).

Here's my camera mount. I bolted it to the holes for the wind screen.

Maybe next year I'll compete in the danger kart as it's way faster than any S2000.

anyway...If anyone wants to go next year, I'd highly reccomend it. Check out www.wmhm.org. They obviously dont have next year's registration posted yet but early registration starts in october. If you live in or around the midwest, and you go to just ONE event a year, this is def. the one you want to go to.
