Anyone ever done this?
Good post.
I lived in northern california for 20 years, and yeah rain does tend to come out of nowhere...
in central texas you have a bit more of a warning, not living right on the ocean, and the sky is just completely different when there's rain in the area. but the fronts do move fast, and i have also seen it rain when there's not a cloud in the sky.
honestly, i just don't like the looks of the softop all that much, either up or down...and almost wish honda offered it in CR configuration from the get-go.

The only people I have seen "gut" their tops is when the top is worn/torn/slashed and they can't afford to replace it or if they have a custom rollbar/cage. If its about the weight savings, I say go for it and do the CR cover. Otherwise.. well.. no. It takes so much away from the car - i.e., the ability to enjoy top down without fear of soaking you or your interior/vandalism/etc.
I was a super top down whore and unfortunately my top was eventually ultra trashed. Got a HT, took out the soft top and don't regret it. Car looks sexy as hell with the HT, no more soft top rattles, less weight, and I can always take it off if i feel a little open-airy..
Here in south florida, summer sucks for a convertible as it is way too hot and humid for top down plus it always rains. In the winter time it is dry and cool and perfect for open air driving so I just take my HT off if i feel like it and if i don't plan on leaving my car unattended for long periods of time.

See for this particular circumstance there's not much need since there are so few convertibles without any top but Jeep Wranglers have this issue a lot since their tops can just come off and be stored in the garage during summer
they have a nifty "emergecy jeep top"

It'd be cool if we could get something like this for CR owners or hard top lovers

Summary of thread:
Removing the soft top is a major trade off. You decide if it's worth it.
