anyone with "hyperwhite" maplights????
I just installed some bulbs, and here are my impressions.
Those Polarg bulbs actually are generally a bit dimmer than stock.
1. Interior dome lights: I just tried a set of Polarg M16 and a set of cheapo (was like 8 bucks for a pair?) Made in Taiwan (MIT) LEDs for my dome lights, and the interior was not lid well at all. Not so happy about that. In fact, the car looks like crap inside now. Looks like I need to spend some good $$ on a set of quality LEDs or just put everything back to stock.
2. Licence plate: The license plate looked okay with the M4 bulb. Quite a nice colour in fact. It looked a tad darker, but hardly noticable (because the bulb is only for a small area). I paid 5USD for a pair of M4s.
3. Trunk: The trunk was quite a bit darker too, with the M4 bulb. I'm okay with the trunk's lighting being a bit darker, since I don't spend much time in the trunk anyway. But it honestly doesn't look that great.
4. Parking lamps in headlights: I spent a whopping 35USD on a set of nice Polarg LEDs with 6000K colour for my parking lamps in the front, and that looked great (would be even better if I have 6000K xenon, instead of my stock 4500K). I didn't want to put a set of M4s up there, as I don't want my front to have blue-looking bulbs during the day. Neither do I want to risk putting a set of cheap Made in Taiwan / China LEDs up there, since those will be on for long period of time and it's expensive to replace the headlamps if anything bad happens.
With all those bulbs looking darker, I didn't get the Polarg M2 for my backup lights. I didn't want to risk reducing the visibility when I back up, nor do I want the blue colour inside my rear light housing during the day (I think it looks a bit weird). So my only option is to go for a set of quality LEDs, from Polarg or something -- which will cost me another 35USD or so! And I'm not so sure if LEDs are great for illuminating a big area, like what backup lights are supposed to do. Will see how that goes.
In short, I would advice people to either go the full 9 yards of replacing the bulbs with quality LEDs (i.e. ones made by Polarg or other major Japanese automotive lighting company), or leave them the way they are from stock. Those Polarg bulbs were simply coated with a layer of blue colour to make the light look white. However, in return, you have reduced illumination, and that didn't look pretty at all.
Just my 2 cents.
