It is free advertising for Honda, similar to how the Viper brought new consumer awareness to Dodge.

If it were discontinued it wouldn't affect it's value at all.

I would hate to see this car tucked away in thousands of garages only to resurface 20 years from now, still worth $32,000. The silver aniv. Vette's in 78 were getting from 20-35k in 78! Yikes, park it your garage for 20 years and guess what it is... A limited edition vette with only 1000 miles and now 20 years later it coouldn't beat the technologically superior 1993 Saturn SL in the quarter mile, oh and worse yet it's worth 18k.

The key to the $250,000 + Cobras is their impressive race history and performance. In fact the limited production cars that are worth anything, are valuable because of their race history and/or revolutionary design contributions. IE: Cord 810, Tucker, 300sl Gullwing, 288gto, rs200, ...The only way this car would ever be worth anything, is if it was discontinued in 2001 and won the 24 Hour Lemans in 2002.

Perseption is reality, in a soft market if it is "rumored" to be discontinued, people will rush to buy...Bet the rumor was started by the Dealerships. heh

I'm gonna put thousands of miles on mine and enjoy the best kept secret & best bang for the buck until my lease is up Even paying sticker for this car is a bargain. WOW what a blast.

The 78 vette is not worth that much because it was a lousy era for vettes. A 1967 427/435 is worth about 75 thousand dollars. That is because it was the best year (last) of the Sting Ray body style and because it was an awesome performer. It did not have to win LeMans. A lousy car new is never going to make a good collector car no matter how limited it is.

2000 denotes the engine size not the year. If you lok at Honda's history you'll note an S360, S500, S600, and S800 all referring to engine size.

If they decided to produce the prototype 5 cylinder 2.5L engine you would expect it to be called an S2500.

If you want Honda to stop production now that you've got yours you are showing a complex mix of selfishness and ignorance.

I'm saying the S2000 is an awesome car for the $$$, but it isn't and never will be in same ranks as an '67 427/435 hp Vette, AC Cobra, GT40, (even if it were discontinued) etc...
Of course back then no one thought those cars would be worth much in the future either. A landmark car is a landmark car. A Cobra is not in the same ranks as a Duesenberg either but I would love to own either one. The car is desireable because it sets benchmark performance standards, it is hand built, it is a commemorative edition, it is a unique platform not shared with any other Honda.

Another great (discontinued) car was the 91 Lotus Elan (best front wheel drive car ever made) only 500 in the US 2500 +- turbos worlwide, they stickered at 42k in 1991
you can get one for $10-15,000 today. Rare but no Significance.
Actually that car was a red headed stepchild. No one wants a front drive Lotus, then, ....or now.

My point is who cares how "limited" the car is. Cars like the S2000 are made to be driven by people that enjoy driving not to be statements of style or wealth, etc. If there are a million people like this then that's great because the community is larger and we will be able to get better products and meet more people with similar interests.

Your lurker comment is comical. I'm amazed how flippant someone can be when they are behind a computer but when in person they would never act the same. I have just been driving an S2000 for a few weeks and have just joined this community. I am looking forward to learning alot and possibly contribute a few things. I've learned one thing about somebody.

Yep, you've got my number, babylou. I would have said the same thing over a beer or at an S2K meet.

Tell us more about the amazing Fiero.
