Okay, I think I've read just about everything on this board about going SC. I'm so close on getting the Comptech kit but the only thing that would stop me from doing so would be the "harmonic vibration" problem. It seems that over time, the crank will get stressed by running the SC, causing main bearing failure.

At this point it doesn't seem like anyone, any mfg, has come up with a real solution to this. Comptech, I was told has done a revision on their mounting brackets to reduce the "H-vibes" a bit.

I'd like to have my engine last more than just 40-60k miles on the SC. Is this possible? Prob not.

I know, I know. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

There are a few cars out there with more than 60K miles and an SC, and I've not heard of one bearing failure due to harmonic vibration. There were a couple of early adopters that had problems due to vibration but I believe that Comptech remedied their problem, and redesigned the brackets.

Basically, I think perhaps your fears are unfounded.

At least I hope so.

That is the first I have heard anything about a main bearing being a problem with the SC.

My brother had the original Comptech bracket and, man, when you sat in his car his shift knob would bounce around like a mexican jumping bean. Then his bracket cracked, as a bunch of others did, and it was replaced with the bracket with rubber bushings. It was a night and day difference in the amount of vibration in the drivetrain with the new brackets. My shift knob hardly moves at all at idle, and has no significant vibration during the power band. I think they have pretty much solved the "harmonic vibration" problem. I have 30k miles and my brother is at 40K with no problems like that so far.

Actually I did read it, and he says "bottom end" not main bearings. It is kinda vague what really happened in his case. Is it because of the supercharger, how hard he drives the car on the track, other modifications that he has and which of the two types of SC he has. Not a lot of detail there.

More details to help us understand the problems would help.

I don't drive my car like that, and expect it to last a long time even with the SC on it.

There is a whole thread devoted to the Comptech vs. Vortech debate. I suggest you search it out.
