I got hit by a decent sized rock this weekend up in the mountains.....and now, I have a nice 7 inch crack smack dead in the middle of the windshield. Fortunately, the rock didn't hit the hood and second, South Carolina covers windshields with no out of pocket expenses......

Anybody had their S2k windshields replaced? If so, anything I should look out for(besides more rocks)?

Thanks in advance.

I've had two windshields replaced since taking ownership on 12/24/2000. The first was a mobile service by a senior technician, who did a good job. The second was done by the manager at the glass shop, who did a great job. In my case, the manager works on all of the "specialty" cars (luxury, exclusive, etc.), so he was very willing to listen to my suggestions such as not slamming the hood down and not standing on the door sills without a towel over them. Feel free to PM me for more details if you're interested.

Mike

Believe it or not the S2K windshield is fairly special. There are a bunch of "rubber dams" on the inside and outside profiles. Hate to say it but I would take it to a Honda dealer...or have the glass shop access the Helm Manual 20-30 Windshield Replacement.

I have had mine replaced once. They did a good job with the windshield, however, they managed to break the mount for the rearview mirror. I had to go without for about a week while they ordered in a replacement. They claim this was an all too common thing with Acura's as well. I don't know if this was true or just a line. I did have window replacement on both an Accord and an Intregra I used to own. None of those had this happen... However, make sure they are careful taking off and putting back on the rearview.

I had my windshield replaced last year before the birth of S2000Online, so most of it was detailed on a previous board, but with rehashes here. Do a search for "windshield" and my username and you'll find my posts.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The window just had to break with this car! Of the 5 cars I've owned, it just had to happen now.

Well, the owner of the glass shop called me yesterday and he said he'd rather me bring the car into the shop instead of doing the mobile service. He says the logic being that they can do a better job. They have the glass in stock but need to order the molding. I of course insisted that I watch the whole affair. He said no prob.

Hopefully it all goes well! Moving to Santa Barbara, CA at the end of the month and want to get this over with asap.

I had mine replaced a while back by a mobile glass company. He did a good job with the windshield & moldings, but cut himself & bled on my convertible top! Luckily, it came out...
