Default No kidding about the windshield...

So I was driving home from work today on a local freeway that has a decent number of semi-trucks traveling on it. One kicks up a rock and hits squarely on the windshield... didn't notice much more than a mark while I was driving but when I got home... sure enough it was a small chip/crack.

I've read about how S2K front windshields are notorious for insect splats due their angle. I guess that applies to other debris as well. Kinda sucks cuz I just picked up my S2K about two weeks ago. Time to hit up a pepboys for autoglass repair before it spreads. Anyone have constant probs with getting chips in the front windshield?

My hood/windshield got it the first time I took my car out. A pickup decided that he must pass on a road that had recently been chip sealed. I was going well over the posted limit and hanging back from the car in front to avoid rocks. The pickup threw a rock that rolled down the hood and chipped the windscreen. I got another chip just a few weeks ago just after I brought the S2000 out of storage. It doesn't hurt as bad after the first couple!

Yeah, but the roads in WA are rock-infested...

I got mine on after 6 days of ownership. Thankfully it is on the passenger side, so I don't have to look at it all the time. Sucks knowing it's there though. Kind of ruins the new car ownership experience.

Good news! That cheap PPG replacement windshield is 1000x better than the original Honda glass Fear not friends and don't get OE glass or you'll be buying more again in no time. Get the PPG replacement glass. That shit's bulletproof!

Do you, or anyone else, know what the difference is? I mean, obviously it's not true that glass is glass, but what specifically makes it perform better?

I tend to agree. My '01 Odyssey has a couple of good chips in it. It's the first car I've ever had that give me this problem. I wound up replacing the OEM windshield on my S2000 about four months into my ownership experience (long story! ) and (knock on wood) I've not had any problems with rock chips in the replacement windshield. I did not use OEM glass and I've had several really good strikes since the installation. So far, so good! (keeping fingers crossed)

my oem one had gotten pitted so badly that when the sun would shine, it was difficult to see....had it replaced and 3 days later a rock on the highway hit it and cracked it....the shop that put it in used the pressure/vacuum to fix it
