Default Anyone running Falken Azenis tyres?

I'm wondering if anyone has got the Falken Azenis (RS) tyres on their S2000? I'm looking to see how you find them (if you haver them). Also I'm wondering how does the 225/50/16 contact patch compare to the OME S02s ... I'm wondering if they're just as wide.

Two of the guys in HSCC Queensland are running Azenis.

They are happy with the cars handling but say that after a few thousand km they become extremely noisy. As far as contact patch goes I'm not sure but I know that they are running 225s on the rear.

They both said that they don't mind the azenis but would not buy them again.

I recently put a set of toyo proxes t1-s on my car and am quite happy.
They offer about 90% of the SO2s performance in the dry about 120% in the wet and probably last a fair bit longer. They are also about $200 each compared to $350 for the SO2's.

Thanks Dhess,
Can you tell me how much they got the Azenis for (that is the whole set)? They come in 205/55/16" and 225/50/16" so they look to be a perfect match for the S02s ... I'm just not sure about the rear width as that's something I don't want to sacrifice.

Noise does not really bother me. I was thinking that if they are cheaper that the S02s and offer a tad more grip then I'd concider them as a seplacement for the S02s. Also, I'm not sure about the wear ... could you tell me how long they lasted on the S2000?

If I can get the tyres for less then $1,000 and they last me more then 15,000km then I'll be very templated. btw, the S02s will end up lasting me just over 20,000km (with 3 proper track days and 2 DECA days).

From memory the guys were getting similar mileage to SO2's.
20000 kms is pretty good for SO2's. Thats what I got out of mine but they were worn down to the steel belt and were like racing slicks. They were awesome for launches. Were your SO2's very illegal at 20000 kms?

Falken Azenis

205 55 16: $192
225 50 16: $202

Note these are prices I got at the first tyre shop I checked and they include fitting. Pretty cheap eh?

I've heard several people saying that Falkens have only got a soft compound outer layer and become quite hard as they wear and lose grip.

I'll try to get onto one of the guys and get a more detailled review of the Azenis.

If you want more grip go for:

Yokohama A539

$197 Front
$206 Rear

hehe, I have not quite got to 20000km but the tyres are certainly no longer 'legal'. They're not 'bald' either and have been doing more then OK in the terential-downpours that we've been having for the last few weeks.

wow! that's $800 for a set. Now I'm seriously tempted. S02s will cost me $1200 if I get them super cheap. So for 50% less cost I see it feasable to 'throw away' the tyres after 10000km and still not be out of pocket ... and that way you always have 'fresh' tyres. Though, can you speak to youre 'guys' and find out how they found the tyres as they wore down?

Are you saying that these tyres should have more grip then the S02s or more grip then the Azenis tyres? ... From what I could quickly find on the net, it seems like these are just a 'road tyre' ... and as far as 'road' tyres go I'd rather stick with the S02s as all the tyres that I've gone through - the S02s are by far the best (in particular once they get worn a bit). What do you kow about the A539s?

The Azenis guys reckon that that despite their semi slick design they are not too bad in the wet.

I don't know much about the A539s but I have just heard people rave about them.

The other thing about the Azenis is that they are V rated not W rated.

Another point for you to consider, when I purchased my 215/45/16s for my ITR a few months back, all four tires measured ~9 mm wider than advertised. I am not sure if this is size specific.

Yeah, that's right ... what exactly is the difference between V and W?

I actually got reports from some WRX guys (who use them) that they offer better grip in the wet then road-tyres. They are not as good in standing water though (from what they say).

ps. That's good news Fangfang. I don't mind them being wider then the OME S02s but don't want them to be thinner.

OK, so V rated means that they are rated to 'only' 240kph ... correct?

btw, I just want to make sure that we're talking about the same tyres - Falken Azenis (RS) ... not the Falken Azenis ST115. ST115 look more like a standard road tyre while the RS have a racing-tyre thread pattern:
