Anyone shipped a car before?
Drive it ?
Sounds like a FUN drive to me !
1,800 miles roughly 30 hours according to Google Maps, 5 days driving 6 hours each day giving you plenty of time to stop along the way to sight see and get you to the next town in time to explore that town before you go to bed, get up at your leisure and drive another 6 hours. Sounds PERFECT to me, I would even go top down but that is me.
This country is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever seen and you have the perfect drivers car, DRIVE don't ship, enjoy this country.
I did ship a car that I sold last year, Calif. to Vermont and the guy had Fed Ex pick up the car, yeah Fed Ex ships cars. The cost was 1,200 a year ago and the guy that picked up the car was obviously a car guy, he impressed me with how careful he was and the car arrived on time to its new owner in perfect condition.

Ship everything else and have a road trip. Save money, have fun, safeguard car ... what's not to like? Look for back roads and interesting routes - don't just do Interstates.
I highly recommend getting a copy of "Road Trip USA, Cross-Country Adventures on America's Two-Lane Highways" by Jamie Jensen ISBN-10: 1-59880-101-5 for only $29.95 full retail, and worth every penny. The AAA club in Brooklyn didn't even know about this book and the routes within.
I vote to drive it, if time is not such an issue for you to be at your destination. I just completed two cross country drives (not in my S) and I can doubly recommend to stay off the Interstates if you don't want to be bored with such straight roadways and broad curves. Take your time and have an adventure. On my way, I met a Miata owner who was moving from California to the East Coast, with a passenger! His trunk was completely packed and he forced his female travel companion to scrunch up because he filled the footwell. Ship all that you can, pack lightly, and have a blast.
I bought a London Roadster this past Spring, and the shipping companies wanted around $1,800 to ship from the Seattle area to Phoenix. I'd spent my cash on the car, so I decided to fly up there and drive her home. What a memorable trip I had. You'll make lots of memories and have stories to tell if you drive it yourself.
