I have a friend of mine who always used to put a thin layer of car wax on his Stang. He did it to get the Rain-X effect where the water beads without using Rain-X especially with some problems Rain-X has been known to cause on the paint of cars.

With the known softness of the S2k windshield, I was wondering if a thin layer of wax would be a good idea for minimal protection against chips, etc.

Hmm...I strongly doubt you'd get any ballistic protection, but contaminants and atmospheric fallout would tend to blow off and/or be easier to remove.

My question might have nothing to do with this but couples hours after washing my car, I always get bugs all over my windshield. Anything I can do about it???

Yea- I hate those bugs! I spend 4 hours cleaning the car and then go out for a spin and come back with bugs everywhere! Also, I've noticed that speed seems to make a difference. When I drive less aggressive, I see fewer bugs. If I drive for fun, then I come back with guts splattered all over the place.

It must have something to do with the profile of the car. I've driven other cars where the bugs seem to be blown over the car and not all collide with the winshield.

And the bugs love the headlights too. They appear to hypnotize them into flying right into the car.

Not a big fan of using a bra but got tired of cleaning "bug guts" off the front bumper. I take back roads into work and they just seem to pile up. The red innards are hard to clean off the white paint. Using a bra was the only way that I could deal with all the bugs. I can deal with the windsheld. Paper towel and windex does a great job in just a few min.

Yes

Yes (YMMV)

I've waxed my windshield before... works ok, until you drive in the rain. The wax seems to smear and streak with the wipers...

Yeah! Red bug gut innards. THAT's why red's the best color...
