Default Anything To Look Out For

I'm planning to sell one of my motorcycles and get a sports car again. I had been considering a Boxster S or a 944 Turbo, but took a '07 S2000 for a drive and I'm reconsidering the porsche. I've had them in the past and I keep thinking about the expensive maintenance costs and some reliability problems. Are there any weak points in the s2000 to look out for? After going through the forum a bit, I read there is big difference between the AP1 and AP2 regarding ride quality and performance. Anyone have experience with both cars that can share their experience? I would use the car for the street, some autocross and race track driver events. Thanks for the info.

There are tons of threads on this buddy! But I think you'll find that the only way to decide between AP1 and AP2 is to drive both yourself and see which you like better. I did and still had a hard time choosing. Bottom line for me was they are not so different that you can go wrong with either one. The best thing is to find a nice clean well cared for S at a good price.

Good luck, whichever way you go.

I see I should have done some searches before submitting the post. Looks like others had the same questions I have, and lots of good info here. Thanks.

There won't be any problems with this car as long as you buy one that's been cared for. Just your regular oil changes, and you might have to replace your timing chain tensioner.

I assume if you had a Porsche you will be looking at AP2's. Never driven one, but I assume it's the same thing, minus the 9,000rpm redline

top gear picked the s2000 over the Porsche and BMW Z4. That should say it all. A true sports car. The only reason you get a boxster is because you cannot afford a 911. Watch the video.

As a former owner of a 944, get the s2000.

The rear hatch on the 944 made it a bit more practical than the s2k, but the reliability and parts cost on the 944 left a lot to be desired.
