Default AP1 or AP2?

I want to buy an S2000, but I want to get the version that would be best suited for the track. Is there much of a difference between the two versions for track racing? I eventually want to do autox.

The mods I am considering include:

Flashpro, intake, header, exhaust, and then tuning. Coilovers and Tires/Wheels too.
Following that might be valve springs and retainers as I hear they are weak.
I know I might be leaving out a few things, but correct me if I am wrong that the above are not the most important items.

Thanks in advance.
John

The two are identical in terms of track and autoX performance. So I say either one is fine. It'll be easier to find an AP2 in good condition, but of course an otherwise-equivalent AP1 would be cheaper.

ap1 if you want raw car
ap2 if you want a more refined car

they both have there ups and downs,
test drive both and see what you like

i find the ap1 needs more skill to catch the "snap oversteer" (not bashing on ap2's)
but the ap2 has vsa that will keep you going and not spinning out

I have an AP1 and I think the bit of extra torque of the AP2 may help in AutoX events. I've only test drove one though.

As always: test drive to determine your preference.

Folks... no one is going to let you test drive a car hard enough to catch the nuances of handling at the limit. No owner is going to let you powerslide around a high speed corner to let you test the controlability of the oversteer.

During a normal test drive, what you'll find is that the AP2 has more torque and is going to be more enjoyable to drive at 7/10 or less. It's also safer on public roads due to the suspension revisions and VSA (on later models).

Sure, a skilled racing driver pushing the cars at 10/10s won't notice a difference, but most everyone else will.

I guess the question has to be raised; is this ONLY a track car? Or will this be a car that you also track? If it's only a track car get a 02 Ap1 for as cheap as you can and nail the piss out of it. Otherwise, get the newest you can afford.

Oh and as stated, Flashpro ONLY works for 06+'s

9000 rpm is addicting.
VSA is a good thing for daily.
Flashpro is only 2006 and up.

if you want best of all worlds - get Euro 2006+
