AP1 - Plastic Window Torn
So I've had the car for a whole week, was putting the top down the other day and I heard a cracking noise. Immediately stopped, put top back up and inspected. It ripped a V near the bottom of the plastic window exactly in the middle. It also ripped straight up and down for about 3 inches about 6 inches above the V rip... I knew when I bought it that the plastic window looked pretty baked, but damn!
Please oh please tell me I can have the plastic window replaced and not have to drop however much for a whole new top?
Nearly winter too... OY!
Thanks guys.

You can replace just the plastic window. Search the forums. I believe that it unzips at one part and rivets at another... i'm not 2 certain about it. But What i do know is that you do not need to replace the whole top, you can just opt to get a new plastic window.

You sure can. Something similar happend to me, but instead of it ripping, somebody began the tiny rip by poking a hole through it one night. I bought the window piece for about 350.00 new and installed it myself. It was alot of work, but well worth not having to pay some mechanic, who could easily mess it up, a lot of money. I followed the instructions that came with the plastic peice, and had it replaced in about 4-5 weeks. It took so long because I work and go to school, so I could only put an hour in here and there.
I had this taken care of by a honda dealer as a "good Faith" warranty and had to pay NOTHING. Exact same spot where you are mentioning. Exact same way. Same sound. Happened in April. Go to the dealership and tell them this happened and if they refuse, let them know you know someone else this has happened to and it was covered. If they are dicks to you I'll stop by my dealer and get a case # if needed.

The conversation went something like...
"Hi, I have a 2001 S2000 and the other day I was putting the top down and I heard a loud crack, inspected and it split the plastic window... I've heard this has happened before and was wondering about looking into getting it good faith warrantied"
"I've never heard of that happening. <Asks someone in backround> He's never heard of that happening either"
<thinking> We live in a town of about 85,000- I've seen maybe 3 here. At least 1 is an AP2.
"Are there that many around here?"
"Well we've sold every one we got"
<thinking> Nice dodge...
"Basically the good faith warranty only applies if you've been a good customer and had all your work done here- we're not just going to warranty anyone off the street"
"So... Do I call a district manager, or...?"
"Call the 800 number in your owners manual"
So do I call HondaCare, or just keep bothering the dealer?
Thanks.
call onda care and get a case number assigned to your complaint. And actually GO to the service at the dealership. When they see you are serious, they might offer to split the costs. Refuse. Make them pay for it! Keep it up and they may budge. Luckily I bought an extended warranty and 2 cars from my dealer and they treated me like gold when it happened. It's funny b/c I have a 2001 and I had it exactly a week when it happened just like you.
keep pressing honda and keep telling them you know others this has happened to that was covered. "Good Faith Warranty" isn't so plain and simple as that guy stated.

I have had all of my shat done in my area, and when I mentioned this to them, they said that nothing on their side could be done. As a matter of fact, when I told them how much they would charge just to put one on, they acted like it would be 'too difficult' and they referred me to a local business that handles with soft-tops. It wouldn't hurt to try to get them too help you out, but chances are, they won't unless you are very close with somebody there. But hey, you never no, give it a try.
