Default AP1 Safety ratings

My mom is worried about me wanting an s2000. Though she doesn't dictate what I buy, it is always nice to know that mom isn't worried.

So my question is - how safe are s2000s? I've looked at their safety ratings (4/5 frontal, 5/5 sides), but still wonder how safe they are.

Have you guys seen many horrible wrecks that drivers walk away from in the s2k? Any pictures? My main thing is rollover strength - I rolled a Jeep Wrangler in High School (not my fault btw) and my main concern is how well it would hold up.

Thanks in advance.

Do you think a hard top would add any protection in the even of a rollover?

if you roll a s2k... then i doubt you will live... i mean considering what it would take to roll this car.. you would have to take a turn at 80 plus mph and run in a ditch or get nailed by a 18 wheeler going 80+... this car doesnt roll... it is not a top heavy loose suspension Jeep Wrangler.. it is about 8inches off the ground... you will not flip this car...

as far as collisions.. i think you will be fine... you cant live you life thinking what if... you just have to live life and be positive about the situations you encounter and do the best you can.. ~

Get one!!

I have seen pictures of rolled s2ks and was very surprised at how well they held up. The windsheild frame is extremely strong. It is my opinion that with the super rigid frame, the s2000 is one of the safest roadsters ever made.

+1 to the windsheild frame being strong. on top of that you have the roll bars behind your seat that protect you also. i used to drive around a miata and i wasnt really comfortable with the fact that tehre were no roll bars and that if i rollover i'd easily die. in contrast to that i'm very comfortable with the s2000, the ridgidness of the frame, the closeness to the ground, etc. etc. etc.

you shouldnt really compare the s2000 to the jeep... i mean the jeep IS an SUV and the s2000 IS a roadster, kinda like comparing apples and oranges if you ask me

honda rates the s2000"s windshield frame to hold up in a rollover case.

Rolled mine. No seatbelt. Walked away with minor scratches. Top was down. My passenger WAS wearing her seatbelt and doesn't have a nick or bruise on her. Not saying this is normal or that we weren't the luckiest SOB's alive, just saying I was SHOCKED at how beautifully she held up. I have a friend who got broadsided. His driver's seat became his passenger seat. He got knocked unconscious and was still impressed with how his car did. Is a firm believer he shouldn't be alive. I know I shouldn't be....

Very lucky indeed TigerGirl if you weren't wearing a seat belt. Were you ejected from the car?

aCab...the survivability is pretty good, but the chance of getting in an accident in the first place is higher...this is a very tricky car that can bite even experienced drivers.

If you do get one...go autoxing and learn your limits and the car's.

^^^^ This man speaks the ultimate truth. I have been to MANY autocrosses and knowing the limits of this car is honestly the only thing that saved my life as well as others. And no sir, I wasn't ejected even without a seatbelt.

WOW. A MAROON S2K!!!!!!!

Glad you are all right.

One thing to remember is S2k owners LOVE their cars, are fans of DRIVING and are typically better at it. In other words, when I drive, I'm watching other people also. I've noticed the same in other s2k drivers
