The car has 5 star safety ratings all across. Even for roll overs. My mom had the same issue when I was about to buy my s2k about two months ago. I showed her this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=fYKDpo9p3E0&feature=related and she didn't feel quite as bad anymore.

And yea if you manage to roll this car over, you've got some serious skillz

They are pretty safe. My friend is thinking about getting one, he's going from an Audi S4 to the S and his parents are having that issue too.

It's pretty damn safe for what it is, but you can still die in it.

Very safe in all respects except for the lack of side airbags which is getting more and more attention these days. But that applies to all convertibles, and certainly wasn't a concept when your mom got her first car...

My parents live in Houston and I'm in ATL. You should go talk to my mom for me.

I've decided to argue that it's a lot safer than the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I drive now or a motorcycle. Good plan?

Yea I'd say MUCH safer than a motorcycle, haha. Another thing that I told my mom is that on the track nearest to us (Road Atlanta), the s2000 is one of the convertibles that doesn't need an aftermarket roll bar installed to race on the track.

Is your mom cute? Is she married? If the answer is yes and no respectively, I'll talk to her.

After viewing the crash video and S2KTG's pictures in this thread, I feel SO much better in my S. I never intend to drive it to its handling limits, but if I fsck up, there may be a chance for me to survive the mishap. Not as good as in my RL (roof present, ACE body structure, airbags everywhere, OnStar to report where I am automatically if airbags go off), but wow, what an awesome design on the S. Honda FTW!

To touch up on a very important thing that was mentioned here... TEST YOUR LIMITS!!! I cannot stress this enough. Even if you never plan on autoXing it and you drive like a granny. Atleast find an empty parking lot and find out exactly what the car can and will do under each circumstance. If you know your limits you will have a much greater chance of knowing what to do in any given situation. If you haven't spun the car, you don't know the limit. Dont forget to stomp on the brakes to see what they can and can't do as well. This might seem off topic but this will increase your safety more than anything else.

I really wish that the DMV would require something like this. Would be a much safer place if everyone knew their limits. I got t-boned recently (in my work van, thank god) by this little rice boy in a nissan 200sx. The roads were slightly wet and he locked them up in an aggressive turn. All he would have had to do is let off the brake and he would have easily made the turn.

I understand where you're coming from there. I ride motorcycles a lot - so that's a big thing there. I think my mom is more worried about what would happen in the event of a collision caused by someone else (as my previous wreck was). My dads on my side saying that my mom will just have to live with it, but it'd be nice to prove to her its a safe car.
