If you are replacing a worn top, that is currently plastic, you would, IMO, be foolish not to go with glass. For your own usage now, for resale later.

Even if there is no actual resale $ difference, there is resale marketability. Someone might not buy your car just because of plastic window, that they'll either have to live with till top needs replace, or replace perfectly good top that was part of cost to buy the car.

wouldn't matter much to me but if i opted for the plastic it would make it easier to convert the car to a hardtop.

Get the glass window, you won't regret later on.

I ran mine for 10 years cleaning with Plexus Plastic Polish. If the vinyl had not worn out I would still be OEM. Personally I went with the Robbins glass replacement on my '01 and could not be happier. The original AP1 was cut to the bone weight wise hence the plastic windows. The car came very close to having a non motorized top (reduced weight). as well. If you are "restoring" then go plastic....only reason period. Check out the North Texas Forum Stickies and look for a top thread by Clovis. Enjoy.

While this is true in most cases. I would not want to buy an 00-01 if it had an aftermarket glass top. Personally, since I don't daily drive my S, I prefer the plastic top. If you maintain it, I feel it looks better and provides 50% more usable area over the glass top. If I ever have to replace my top, I will be getting the original equipment if possible.
With that being said, I would recommend to anyone planning on daily driving the car to get one with a glass top unless you want the original S2000 experience.

I voted $500+. Once you get to $1,000 that's enough to get a completely new top with glass anyway. I do agree that glass helps the marketability of the car - I mainly focused on '02-03s simply because of that, and thought to myself I'd only get an '00-01 if it was a really great deal. So some biases come in.

I was concerned about the glass surface area vs. plastic until I tried it. The glass window is very close proximity-wise to the mirror, so it fills up basically all of the mirror space. I never turn my head to look out the rear window, so that's all I need.

I bought an '02-03 AP1 specifically for the glass and upgraded stereo. I did not consider an '00-01.

I have a my2000, and my aftermarket glass window top is one of the best upgrades... for a number of reasons. Rear visibility is not that big of a factor. Glass > plastic by a mile.
