Default AP1 Softtop Latch Question

I used to own an 05 S. When you unlocked the softtop latches they would click shut and be held in place while you opened the top. Today I had the chance to checkout a used 02 and when I unlocked the top the latches did not click shut...they just dangle there as you open the top. Is this normal? I hope that all makes sense.

I think I get what you're saying. mine just dangle there. Its not a problem when opening the roof, only when closing. I have to manually stick the latches in the striker or they won't line up.

No, this is not normal. It should be like your 05. When you close them out of the strikers, they should stay closed. Sounds like the button springs are broken or gone. If you manually retract the button, it should hold, right?

Forgot to ask...are the latches something they can replace or does it require a whole new softtop?

Becarful, I read somewhere that someone had the the same problem and they ended up causing a tear in the roof due to the broken latches.
