Its a waste of time, the silver part on the AP2 keys rubs off very easily and soon looks like crap.
This happened to my key too. Any one know if you can replace the cover?

Hankook, someone already caught this, but just to reiterate. The silver faced key is going to look like crap in a short period of time. I bought my car with 13K miles on it, and when I got it it was already pretty shoddy looking.

One of the things I miss about my Audi was the switchblade style key. I used to annoy coworkers in meetings by flipping it out and in all the time.

i've done the complete swap.

my ap2 key is holding up just fine.
swaped ignition
swapped door handles to then swap door locks(key lock cylinders are different shapes (ap1 vs ap2). good news is the door handles come painted to match
swapped secret comparment lock
swapped trunk lock

prior to the key swap, i had put the 03 ecu in my api (00). when i put the ap2 ignition cylinder in my car i had the dealer program my car to match the key. (cost 70.00)
everything works perfect.
thanks

I have done the full swap too. All locks were changed and my ECU was recoded at the dealer.

Don't expect you AP2 key to look that nice 1 month after you get it. My silver part has nearly scratched away, and I am the type of person who has had an ipod for 4 years and it still has zero scratches on the chrome back.

It should as it sounds from the ones that did it. Just make sure you get all the other locks(door, trunk, center console) swapped out for the AP2's, too. And then just get it all recoded at the dealership.
