One of the things I miss about my Audi was the switchblade style key. I used to annoy coworkers in meetings by flipping it out and in all the time.
My wife's Acura RDX has the switchblade key. It's easy for the release button to get depressed by accident, resulting in it flipping out in her purse (or in your pocket ) the key from her previous A4 was better in that regard.

I have that key but it is unprogrammable, apparently does not have a chip.

It's cut to my ignition, was taken to Honda and I paid to have it programmed but their programming system could not get it to work.

So now I have the most expensive door key around, $60 for the key, plus $90 for the cutting and programming. $150 for a back up door, trunk, and console key.
There is an old how-to where someone gutted the chip out of their key and transplanted it into the Super Terrific Happy JDM key. Seems like a major PITA. But better than spending hundreds getting an AP2 key to work.

I agree the AP1 key is sort of plain-jane, but it's actually not a bad key, it's got a nice chunky feel to it. My plan it to either paint or plasticoat it in red to try to make it more special.

I'm just surprised how much trouble ap1s are willing to go through to make particular parts look like ap2. headlight conversion, taillight conversion, now the keys. You sure spend a lot of money.

Get an AEM EMS, ditch the immobilizer and then you can use any matching Honda keyblank.

^^^My bad, this is not relevant to the OP's question because the AP2 key doesn't fit an AP1 cylinder. Thanks Stratocaster.

Acssuming that blank will work in your car's cylinder. The AP2 key will not work in an AP1 keyed Cylinder.

Soooo I'm curious. I picked up a theft recovery and have a 2000 ECM with immobolizer intact. And a2004-2005 key and ignition. The dealership said it was unable to program because of a failure????...... Has anyone done this that can help me out? Please PM me as I'm not on here very much.
