Trial fitting of the BasonR replica AP2 lip (showed up today, comes with hardware). The bottom push pins lined up well. The left side screws lined up well to the existing location. The right side lower hole lined up well. The Upper one took a little bit of pushing to get the hole to line up to the existing dimple. There are slight gaps which MIGHT not show with the weather strip added along the top edge. But I'm going to trim the left side about 1/6 of an inch. See picture, the red area just to relieve it a bit. I think that area is causing the slight gaps highlighted in yellow. For the right side I'll try a heat gun to help mold the part tot he fascia. On the back side of the lip is a thin area which I can add 3m double sided tape to help fit the lip.. This might work well enough w/o reshaping, but I'm going to reshape 1st.
note- sanding where pictured and a little heat seems to have done the trick...it fits with less of a gap now.
Be warned the pushpins for the bottom of the lip are brittle and if attempting to remove them expect they will break..In trail fitting the lip I tried to remove the pins only to break them, luckily I have extras.
Left side, highlighted yellow gap, red area to be trimmed 1/16" to help reshape
I purchased a replica on ebay and it had a terrible fit and did not bother installing it. I purchased a BasonR replica for the AP2 lip and it is almost perfect fit.
The Magicdrift was a no go for me, it arrived in a big box unfolded, if I tried mounting it, it will look way too janky. The BasonR was almost perfect, I removed any gap that was present by removing some material as said by the previous post. With the BasonR, I have yet to install the weather stripping as I am waiting to get the lip painted first, even without the weather stripping it looks good and all the mounting holes lined up for me. BTW it is best to mount the lip during the summer months as the polyurethane forms easier.
I just got my Bayson R back from painting. I added the oem molding and some 3m tape. I hope to mount it tomorrow. Are the provided mounting clips and self tapping screws secure enough? Any other tips?
The screws seem to provide plenty of grip, I wouldn't worry. If you put a strip of 3m tape along the inside edge I think it will fit quite nicely...That's what I plan on using on mine. I think the lip w/o the 3m tape would droop down and leave a gap.
Painted today, will need to sand and buff, to get rid of the dirt. Sprayed it outside. Can't tell how the color will match at this point. Just waiting on the 3m double sided tape to mount. Already have the gasket.
Someone in SF is asking $1500(!!!!!!) for a new in box lip in NFR. That’s a new high for asking. Lololol
IMHO anyone paying over what the dealer would change for a new one is a complete idiot!!! and double or more....a fool and his money are easily parted..... That may offend those that over pay, but after fitting the aftermarket lip which fits with minimal issues why pay stupid money for it, no one can tell the difference when it's on the car.... I'd love to see how a OEM lip fits, just can't imagine it being that much better....besides if and when I do scrape the lip, who's gonna cry over $80..to me that is a sacrificial part..
