Approved, Deal Pending -- Last Minute Tips, Questions
Well, I took my first-test drive of the S2000 last night, and the car lived up to my expectations. It only got into VTEC once or twice, barely, and unintentionally -- I wasn't out to hammer on the car I was about to buy -- but intend to follow break-in procedures as discussed here.
I asked the salesman what his take on break-in was, and said something to the effect of "the computer compensates for how you drive the car, so our opinion is to just drive the car how you intend to drive the car..."
Anyway, I am approved with HCFI and am getting MSRP for the car with security-system option, and a good trade-in value on my current Honda.
I just wrote the dealer with some last-minute conditions of sale.
Normally I am quite confident in turning down all the additional protection packages (paint, cloth, leather) -- but can anyone make a case for their value?
I will be putting on a few coats of Zaino Bros or Mequiars as soon as possible, and then looking into leather treatment thereafter.
Also, the top has only been down on the car twice (for the PDI, and during my test-drive) apparently and otherwise kept up in the showroom. Although in the rear-view it appears fairly clear, but there is a strange fogginess/haziness to it when viewed obliquely, almost like steam.
Part of my condition of sale is that they get that cleared up. Has anyone seen anything like this before?
I've read through the FAQ for taking delivery and am otherwise well-armed.
I am only a few days away! w00t!

SilverFog - It is my understanding that the ECU makes dynamic updates to the fuel and ignition map. That means that you don't have to drive it like a maniac at first in order to have a strong engine later. I'd stick to the correct break-in schedule and gradually get more agressive from 600-1000 miles (1000-1600 km).
I do not think that the leather/paint/undercoating protective package adds any value to the car, it only gives $$ to the dealer.
The haze on the rear window may be from plasticizers migrating up off the new interior trim. You should become aquainted with product called Plexus. It should take care of this problem and will be very useful in the maintenance of the rear window.
Enjoy the new car!
