For any s2k air intake mod, I'd certainly recommend one that would access outside air. A Spoon comes to mind. On my car, I have "jerry rigged" sort of a home-made device that works like a Spoon but without the "kinks " that restrict airflow. No staggering power gains or changes in sound, but also no heat-soak bogging. Not very pretty, but it does what I wanted it to do.
About 98% of the AEM hydrolocking stories involve driving through deep puddles and flooded streets (things we unfortunately have here in OK), so an unbrella woudn't do much good. AEMs seem to be good for competition use because it isn't raining then and the car is moving fast enough to not be affected by the heat of the pavement.
AEM v2 and other CAI are notorious in terms of hydrolocking but you just have to take special precautions.
In regards to the bling bling arc intake, I think it is a waste. Why buy it just for the name? It is bling but jdm isn't everything. Not to mention that is it way overpriced and the design is not the bob
You also have to remember $1300 to you may be a bowl of cereal to another person . Sad to say but very true today. I for one would spend another $700 and get what I want rather than to settle for something less. Thats just me and I know there are hundreds of others that are in the same boat. So, yes I can make a statement like that.
That's true, after see in alot of these crazy ballers spent tons of cash on just stupid parts like engine dampers I can agree. However, when I bought mine, that was alot of money to spend on the intake and $1300 didn't even enter the equation. Now I'm happier with one I spent $100 for used. I'd be willing to bet that most of the people on here wouldn't swat at the difference of the two.
BTW, one thing I can't understand about the mugen is that it's pretty much a CF snorkle that mounts on the existing intake tube for $1300. Almost now effort to make since they just stamp them out. The exhaust cost $1500, has a lot of titanium on it and mandrel bends and intricate welding. The SS spoiler costs around $1200 and is pretty much two peices of cut aluminum and some fiberglass (or whatever it's made out of). Anyway, the work to price ratio definitely doesn't even out on these things. The Mugen snorkel should be a $400 peice at most.

The aem v2 is extremely prone to hydrolock and if you dont think so make me an offer thats reasonable and i'll sell you mine. For this particular car it sucks, thats all there is to it. I do have an aem for my 2004 tl 6 spd and on that car it's the best that money can buy, especially with the thermotec sleeve that I covered it with. Guaranteed at least 15 hp with that intake on the tl. And some have said to just get a bypass and forget about it, the bypass does not work on the v2. And if I had the extra $700 to spend on an intake at the time I would have gone with the J's, but I am very happy with my purchase and I will use the extra cash to spend it on my j's exhaust. by the way those interested. I will give you an extra filter for the v2 as I bought an extra one, when I had it set up as a short ram because of the rain down here in Miami. First reasonable offer takes it. Used about a month and a half. Do yourself a favor and use on the track only and definitely not if it's raining.
I live in FLA and the ARC has been great, no problems with rain or heat soak. It looks and sounds great A bit of a bugger to fit with the Spoon tower brace but I got it
I still want to fine toon the install S.S. houses and some clearing of some things ect.
