I think you're mistaking the E46 M3's new SMGII system with the ZF self shift. The SMGII has the 80ms shift, the 5 sport programs and the launch control. The ZF self shift is fully automatic, but it doesn't have a torque converter...at least it didn't the last I heard, which was 5 months ago.

If I couldn't take the s2 to 9grand myself, it just wouldn't be as fun. One of the most important features of this car is the redline and how much fun it is to push it to the limit. With an automatic the redline becomes irrelevant when driving, I mean why even have a tach in an automatic car it's not like you're ever gonna exceed redline anyways.

If you read the specs for the ZF you'll see it's an auto, but also has a steptronic mode. So I guess if you want to select you own gears you still can.

I really hope Honda doesn't produce an automatic S2000. Driving stick is what it's all about, once you start, you will never go back. S2000 should be for the purists, if you want auto, stick w/ an Accord sedan. If they do produce it, there will be all these silly postings about "I have an auto, how do I launch?" If you don't believe me, just check out newcelica.org.
